Bill, you may well have this information and I will not attemp to enumerate all the names. July 31, 1854 Congress recognized and authorized the addition of 88 names to the Siler Roll of the Cherokee. My cousin sent this to me this week and our interest was primarily on the Elliott’s listed there. In remembering the names I see on this site and your discussion of many of the surnames my attention was sparked when I saw the names of Hicks, and Goen (could that be another spelling of Goin?). Ed

Do you still have access to the Greensville list? Could you please post the Stewarts for the same time period or tell me how to access the list. I am looking for Neverson Stewart (who married Ann Jones?) and others.
Thank you,
akhasa
Hi akhasa,
Yes, I still have a paper copy, but parts of it are very faint and hard to read. I may have missed some. Also, that is why there is some ?????. I included all the information on Neverson, but just names and ages for the other 17 entries.

Wyatt Stewart (aged about Thirty one years). Registered on November 12, 1813 – No. 30.
Neverson Stewart born free of a black complexion aged twenty four years last May about six feet high and has no material mark or scar on his head face or hands. Registered on November 8, 1813 – No. 33.
Francis Stewart (aged twenty five years). Registered on December 14, 1819 – No. 73.

???????? (looks kinda like it starts with an “S” or “L” and ends in “ing”) Stewart (man; supposed to be about 23 years old). Registered on August 26, 1824 – No. 112.
Clara Stewart (daughter of Celia Stewart; 23 years old). Registered on November 18, 1824 – No. 120.
Francis Stewart (about thirty one???? of age). Registered on January 7, 1825 – No. 135.
Henry Stewart (aged about forty five years). Registered on March 1825 – No. 138.
Dolly Stewart (thirty years old). Registered on January 3, 1826 – No. 152.

Has anyone come across these Jones folk from Greensville? I have also seen Heinegg’s work.
1. Anne Jones (married a stewart in 1809)
2. Peggy Jones (married a Stewart in 1814)
3. Cryril Jones, with a sister named Anne

On March 31, 1789, Britain Jones paid his tax. (Greensville Co., VA; tax list A)
On May 9, 1789, Surrell Jones Jeffries is listed as “above 16 & under 21”. The person charged with his tax is Simon Jeffries. On the same day, David, William, Collin Johnson and Shadrach, Issac, Simon, Surrell, and Harris Jeffries pay their taxes. (Greensville Co., VA; tax list A)
On April 14, 1798 Britton Jones and Cyrel Jones paid their personal property taxes together in Greensville Co., VA.
Note: The 1789 tax lists is considered a replacement for the 1790 census records and the 1798 for the 1800.
I believe I remember seeing a Peggy Jones on the Register of Free Persons of Colour in Greensville County, 1803 – 1832, but I will have to find my copy of it back out and see (remind me if I don’t post it before too long).

March 7, 2006 at 3:13 am #32706Thanks Stacey.
It certainly makes sense since many the women in our family didn’t always change their names. I thought this was in the Cordell coming out of Austin thread, so please excuse me for posting twice.
