Yah, I’ve read some where the rejections of a GGrandson and his sister of a many G’s Grandfather on my Mother’s side being rejected for the same reason as his sister. I just like knowing how we got where we are. Some day one of us will apply and be accepted unless they change their policy about letting people in. I need to get busy on my sons’ GGGrandmother. I once saw a listing for a family with the same names as hers on the western roles but her name was Luella and the name typed was Lula. I don’t know how to go about addressing that. Do you order transcriptions of the original handwritten page I wonder? And the surname is very common. Then there would be 3 birth certificates to obtain, I think. Thanks for everything,
Dianne

Hello Mystic…I do not have any factual information concerning Cuzzie’s tribal lineage…as I mentioned, it is merely speculation on the part of other researchers. The “theory” if you want to call it that, is that she may have been from another tribe because if she were tribally a Cherokee herself…then her children would have followed the NA “rule” that they would be accepted into their matrilineal tribe as raised as such…the transverse (patrilineally) Nativity would be dismissed. Perhaps someone else on board can better explain how subsequent children were tribally identified? What I have heard has been via phone conversations from cousins. Take great care~~~Laurie
March 1, 2007 at 3:18 pm #26026As I was browsing through some of my papers, I also came across the ECA for Adam G. Cole….wanted to add his name to my list of those that I already have copies or transcriptions of. Blessings~~~Laurie

Ezekial Cole (Anderson) was b: abt 1793 in Lincoln Co, NC; he was the son of John Charles “Jack” Cole and Cuzzie nee Anderson (ha!…lightbulb goes off here…he apparently took his maternal name it seems.) He was 1 of 8 children…number four in birth order of: Jackson “Jack” (1787), Charles (1789), William (1791…who also was reported to have used the Anderson as a given name rather than as a surname…perhaps it was his middle name?), Ezekial (1793), Mary (1795), Margaret (1797), Luana (1800) & Wilson (1803).
You are correct that this Ezekial is from Native ancestry…his brother William filed an Eastern Cherokee application under the name Anderson Cole (ECA # 31697). This line of Cole’s MD into surnames: Gibson, Higgins, Watkins, Collins, Musgrove, Campbell. Numerous members of this line did file ECA’s so their NA ancestry is pretty well established. Most ppl do feel certain that they were of Cherokee descent however there is also soem speculation that the matriarch (Cuzzie Anderson) may have been of another tribal lineage (perhaps Choctaw or Shawnee if I recall correctly?) At any rate….I thank you for sharng what you know of Ezekial…I had not examined his line at all…not knowing that he assumed his maternal surname….great job! If you wish for further information on Ezekial’s siblings and their marriages and/or children…feel free to email me directly.
Blessings to you~~~Laurie
Hi Laurie:
Anderson Cole was a grandson of John Charles and Cuzzie Anderson Cole per his application 31697. He was the son of Jackson “Jack” and Peggy Higgins Cole. His application stated that he made claim through his father, who claimed Cherokee blood from both his father and mother. I have copies of several Cherokee applications. I’ve heard that Cuzzie might be Catawba, but nothing is positive.
I am descended from John and Cuzzie’s son, William and Biddy Collins Cole, also I’m descended from their daughter, Luana Cole and William Campbell. Luana and William Campbell did not marry. William and Biddy’s daughter, Charlotte married Luana and William Campbell’s son, Charles. I’m also descended from William and his second wife, Rebecca Wadkins Cole.
March 1, 2007 at 3:18 pm #26630Hello Faye….thank you so much for posting some of your family information…and yes, I did look in my notes and realize that Anderson Cole who filed his ECA was indeed the son of Jackson…as opposed to being the William Anderson Cole who was the brother to Jackson. Thank you for pointing out that clarification. Do you have any further information on Cuzzie and her potential Catawba connection? This line of Cole’s can get mighty confusing for certain! Have you any info abt Margaret “Peggy” nee Higgins by dates or ancestry? I greatly appreciate any assistance in advance. Have a fine evening~~~Laurie

March 1, 2007 at 3:18 pm #37964S.O.S. Can anyone help me. I am looking for John Henry Anderson born Jan. 1846 KY/Al/TN. The family has had their DNA done and the Match is Cuzzie Anderson/William ‘Billy’ Cole/ Valentine Collins. Has anyone seen this article:

Recent posts The Anderson Family of lost creek settlement March 2016.
The family names;
Anderson, Collins, Wadkins, Sizemore, Higgins, Campbell, Cooper, Barnett, Nichols, Cole, Gibson, Musgrove, Chavis, Bass, Taborn
The Matriarch would be Cuzzie Anderson she is believed to be related to the Andersons who were freed by a slave owner John Flulcher in his will.
Also John had a brother named William who was living with two sisters when their brother came home did not like William there so he shot him (William was working on a wagon) William crawled under the porch and died.
