Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Greetings:
I was just wondering if there were any Native Americans living in Apex. Also, was Apex part of Wake County in the 1700-1900?
Thanks,
Ressa

Apex would have been part of Siouan territory at the time of contact through the colonial times till it was taken. I don’t know offhand which villages would have been there. We need to get some copies of the old maps linked to the main page. I know some of you have posted with them. I should have grabbed them while I had the chance.

I hesitate to say this, because I doubt any connection here. I do have Carpenters in my grandfather’s family. They are not in the line with the Blackfoot ID, but I have been reading of their interactions with native Americans in W.VA. and Ohio. I have heard nothing about intermarriage in this line, but I would not be surprised either. I am finding out that the rumors of my grandfather and grandmother being related may have been true, because family lines interacted during the early years of Americans in Ohio. Both lines were in and out of Fort Pitt and Fort Wheeling during the late 1700’s.

Names you may want to pursue, if just because there are other families in the southeast with those names who suspect NDN blood: Richardson, Hunter, Royster.
Thanks for your replies.:)
