Hello there Bill *smiles*… thanks so much for posting a reply and info to my queary/rant…these KY kinfolk of mine are a truly confounding bunch of rascals…and the inter-marriages and name misnomers don’t help the matter one lick I say!
Thanks for the census reads on the Noah Bolan line…I had no clue who his parents were, having not examined them closely…I appreciate knowing it now thanks to you. I DO have a few Wallen’s in my tree but none that ring a bell with the family you made mention of as having Wheatly in their HH in 1860…and the Allen girl is a mystery to me now (gee thanks! *wink*)
You are correct….in that YES…Daniel Martin Perkins did remove to OK…in fact, as the story goes (short version) his family removed from KY by wagon train early in the 1900’s , having packed all of their belongings and sold moreso and a group travelled enmasse on the long journey that took them months and afforded them far less than they anticipated…all told, I believe 113 individuals from that “clan” travelled enmasse and upon arrival were NOT the hopeful recipients of previously promised land allotments nor even shelter or job opportunities. Some remained and etched their way to sustainence; others did not and returned homeward back to KY. I have copies/notes from numerous of their Cherokee Applications…they claim their Cherokee heritage via their Father: George Washington Perkins and thru their mother Biddy “Liddy” Watkins Cole. Like most of our Native ancestors…their claims were rejected. George W. Perkins was the son of Eli Simpkins Perkins and Elizabeth (called “Dolly”) Perkins…he being one of 7 children…2, possibly 3 of them married into my Nichols line as it were. George & “Biddy” had 6 children together and when she passed, he remarried to Lydia Elizabeth Watkins and together they had 10 children….the majority (if not all) of which are buried in OK. The early Perkins/Nichols connections are becoming more apparent the more info I locate so that is neat for me. If you wish for any further information on this Perkins line….just ask away…I now have plenty…they were one of my first “projects” being as my late mother told me that the Perkins and Gibson surnames were prominent in her lineage.
Lastly….thanks for commenting on the Tempy (Nichols) McCarty/”Buck” McCarty census finds. *Note: for MY gedcom clarity I spell ALL of my Nichols thusly…to TRY and minimize the mass confusion and preclude merging mishaps.*
It has always been my feeling that Tempy WAS in fact a sister to Joseph & John but census information is not confirmation enough to place her there as a daughter of William Nichols (b: abt 1800) and Susannah (Bettie) Nichols….their “issue” being: Joseph (md. Naomi “Oma” Cole), Robert (md. Alcy Jane UNK), William (md. Jemima Cole), John (md. Susannah Cole) & Thomas (never married). On this Nichosl line I have beau-coupe plenty if anyone else connects to me in that fashion….just ask away. I also have Cherokee Applications for some of them too….again….all rejected by the not-so-popular Commission.
Wordiness left me for now…and dinner becons…best of luck to you in all of your personal genealogical meanderings and thanks again for your kindness and sharing nature. Toodles for now~~~~Laurie
December 28, 2005 at 8:31 pm #18563[i]…it also makes mention of the RIDDLE surname which tied in with my maternal Nichols line as well…another William Nichols(b: abt 1750 in Granville Co, NC), a Tory who was hung, was married to Sarah Riddle (b: 1742 in Lewis Co, VA)….her parents being the dau. of Moses Riddle and Mary Gibson….[/B]
Well, if you are related to Moses Riddle, then we are cousins as well.
December 28, 2005 at 8:31 pm #18564Good afternoon Rockhound *waves*. Thanks bunches for replying to my posting…I only recently made a connection to William Nichols & his wife Sarah nee Riddle….having read Jack Goins book so that was a neat and interesting thing. I’m still trying to congeal more connections…the Nichols sure are a crazy bunch to TRY and sift and sort through. If you have not already read Jack’s book…I deem it a worthy and informative read…another cousin of mine from TX got a copy for me (Thanks Peg!)
Can you tell me moreso about how you connect to the Riddle line of Moses & Mary (Gibson) Riddle? I appreciate it…and by the way: nice meeting ya….welcome to the “family fold”. Moses is as far up the tree as I have by way of info thus far…I know his wife’s parents and 2 more generations above them…and believe that Mary was one of 5 children. I have Sarah Riddle as being one of 7 children…would love to learn more about her siblings and their spouses etc. As to Sarah’s husband…I have some info upward 2 generations…and just this weekend started “digging” moreso on his siblings and their families.
Thanks again….enjoy your day! Blessings~~~Laurie
December 28, 2005 at 8:31 pm #18589Well, I have seen Moses Riddle’s mom and dad listed as Margaret Ridley and Edward Buss, but I am not sure I trust the source. Mr. Heinegg thinks all mulattos were mixed with people of African origin…I am not so sure.

RIDLEY FAMILY
1. Margaret Redley, born say 1692, was presented by the churchwardens of Washington Parish, Westmoreland County, Virginia, on 28 June 1710 for having a bastard child. She may have been identical to “Margrett a Servt. to Calleb Butler” who was presented by the churchwardens of Washington Parish on 28 May 1707 and 22 February 1710 for “fornication & haveing a Mulatto bastard.” On 24 June 1713 she and Edward Buss “a Mulatto” were presented by the grand jury for fornication and cohabiting together [Orders 1705-21, 58, 66, 136a, 140a, 143a, 145a, 155a, 217]. She was probably the mother of
i. Moses, born say 1710, owned land in Orange County, North Carolina, adjoining George Gibson and Thomas Collins [Orange County Loose Papers, vol. V, no. 131; vol.VI, no. 579]. He and his wife Mary were “Mulatto” Orange County taxables in 1755 [N.C. Archives T&C 1, p.8]. He was called a poor debtor in February 1761 when William Chavis sued him in Orange County court [Haun, Orange County Court Minutes, I:459]. He was probably related to Moses Ridle, an “Indian” tithable in John Wilson’s Pittsylvania County tax list for 1767.
Anyway, my line goes like this:
1 Moses Riddle
1 Mary Gibson
2 Captain William Thomas Riddle
2 Harriet “Happy” Rogers/Roberts (moved to TN after her husband was hanged).
3 John Riddle (orphaned at 7, bound to James Newell)(moved to TN and later Pulaski Co, MO)
3 Sarah Johnson
4 Emanuel Riddle
4 Malinda West
5 Andrew Jackson Riddle
5 Lucinda Bench
7 John Storie
7 Florida Ellen Riddle
December 28, 2005 at 8:31 pm #19108BlondeyLaurie,
Have you seen the William Nichols and son George on the 1755 Granville Co, NC taxables list?
http://www.rootsweb.com/~ncgranvi/other/1755-tax.htm
There are also some Going (Goins ?).
December 28, 2005 at 8:31 pm #19111Thanks so much for posting the link to Tithables Rock!…I had heard reference to it made but had never before viewed it…I’m now able to scour that list and see those that are from my maternal lines…I appreciate it much. Blessings~~~Laurie
