Have you been able to connect the Bowman name with the Catawba Tribe/
I am still looking for the info I came across where it listed the Bowman name as being Catawba, will continue to search

Does anyone have info on the Wilkerson’s of Granville Co, North Carolina? Winnie was said to be mixed Native American. i beleive her parents were Juber, and jane Ridley not sure. Below is my Wilkerson Line.

Hmm, my Ridleys (Riddles) were in Granville Co, NC in the 1750s, but were out of there in the next few decades. There may be a connection to Moses and Mary Ridley (Riddle). Search those names and you’ll find plenty…I can’t promise they are connected to yours though.
Moses and Mary’s descendents were associated with and later settled where other Melungeon and/or Saponi descendents settled…but Moses was not Saponi. Mary is thought to have possibly been a Collins or a Gibson, but we’re not sure. They were neighbors with the Sizemores, who claimed to be Cherokee in later documents, but were never found to be. My Riddles also claimed to be Cherokee, but I think that is because of the women who married into the line from the 1830’s on. Pat Spurlock Elder supposes the Sizemores may have been Catawba from around Cherokee, NC (maybe Moses was too, we just don’t know).
I have a theory (it’s just my theory) that Moses may have been descended from a trader that Pat Spurlock Elder mentioned in her book about the Melungeons. This trader, a Ridley, frequented the Saponis.
Most of this info is correct, but Hawk Bowman had a daughter named Elizabeth in a previous marriage before Nancy Barbour. He and Nancy were married in what is now Gate City, VA in 1838. Then he and Nancy had a daughter they named Eliza. This is confusing but I have found several families that had two Elizabeth’s or Eliza’s in the family.If you look at the census records there are two Elizabeth’s or Eliza’s, in 1850 Hawk had Eliza aged 8, then in 1960 she shows up in John Jack Cole family aged 18. This is the Eliza that he married. I think the marriage of a Hawk Bowman and Elizabeth Mason is another Hawk Bowman. Then in 1860 our Granny Cole is living next door with William Jones to John Jack Cole and Eliza. Rebecca Jane was my Grt Grand Mother. This is an old post I hope you will see it.
I am Rick, My grand mama, was said to be Indian, the pictures indicate the same. the censes reported her as white. At first did’nt everyone either list people black or white depending on the shade of the skin. One of the pictures of Patsy Dees, was reconized by some of my friends in Tenn. that said she looked alot like her husbands aunt who was Cherokee. Patsy’s mom was Sally Outen it is said she was creek or Catawba. I am at another stand still in my research

Looking for any Catawaba Indian connection to my material ancestors
John Austin sr and his saponi indian wife, John Austin jr his wife Mary McBee who is said to be Sasquannah, John Austin jr and Mary got a passport to go into the Catawba Nation
any help would be greatly appreciated, these families were from PA

The Catawba are federally recognized and have their reservation in York County, SC. They have a website, http://www.catawbaindian.net/. You might want to use their contact us page to see if they can connect you with a tribal historian who might know any information about family ties with you ancestors.
Do you have a date for that passport? Perhaps it will coincide with a period when the Saponi are recorded to have gone to live with the Catawba. That occurred at one point, then there was a falling out and they left. There have often been instances where people more likely to be saponi were documented as Catawba. In Post Colonial times there seems to have been a point when Saponi people were categorized Catawba. The two groups were quite distinct originally, however. The Catawba speak a much different, older version of a Siouan language. They were in the Carolinas much longer. It’s thought by some that the Saponi came from Ohio within a few hundred years of Contact.
