tarcarion;
I have been looking at the info posted by Laurie today and I have a Question, Since John Cole killed his Higgins Bro-in law and went to Mo for a spell, what do you think the chances are that when he returned that he may have changed his name from Jackson to John and she changed her last name from Higgins to Mallet?

Here is a copy of a post I found on RootsWeb.com a couple years ago;
Rebecca;
Do you have any futher info on Eliza Cole d/o Hawk Bowman? I have some application papers for citizenship that include a Wash or Washington Cole, (and siblings) who claims his ancsestry through Hawk Bowman. There are additional papers saying he is the son of Catherine Raper and Unknown Cole and that Ctherine (his mother) is the daughter of James Raper and Susannah (sukie) McDaniels and that is where he derives his Indian Bl;ood.The application was dismissed using the Bowman connection. His siblings listed are William Cole b 1850, Elizabeth b. 1867, Elmira b. 1875 and Ollie Cole b. 1876.
do any of these sound familiar? ( Note by Aubrey Cole, This is Wash s/o of john and Margaret Mallet)
Also in an article found on the history f Gilmer Co. Ga. there is a reference to the first inmates in the new jail were Thomas McDaniel and his son James who were accused of killing a family by the name of Bowman. James evevtually escaped and Thomas was latter Pardoned, I don’t know if there’s a connection but I do know the Raper and McDaniel families lived in this area of Ga. and also in Cherokee Co N. C.
