Some post scripts to this thread… may be of some help to those researching, and/or descendants of, George, Jesse, John Peter, and Samuel Corn.
The documents at http://members.cox.net/melton/docs/CornJohn-Proof.htm – seem to put to rest the debate on whether the father of George, Jesse, John Peter, and Samuel Corn was either Matthew Corn (from Germany), or John Adam Corn, b. about 1726.
This begs the question of where did John Adam come from? There’s a John Corn mentioned in Virginia in the 1600s, and there is some speculation that he may have been John Adam Corn’s grandfather, although there is no direct proof.
Finally, I read recently in another forum, that all the Corns on the 1810 Patrick County, VA, census are listed on the Saponi Indian Rolls. Does anyone know anything about this? What rolls are being referred to here? Does anyone know?
October 27, 2005 at 3:41 pm #18771I believe the “List” you are referring to is from the following 3 volume set:
TITLE: Occaneechi Saponi and Tutelo of the Saponi Nation: aka Monacan and Piedmont Catawba; Includes The Eastern Band of the Cherokee and Lumbee Nation and Southeastern Indian Nations, etc.
Written and compiled by Richard L. Haithcock, Vicki L. Haithcock

It’s great to see that link! and also,
on the Binn’s tax lists for Virginia…
All four brothers, Samuel, George, Jess and Peter Corn are in Henry co Va which Patrick co was formed from. The other two, Joseph and Matt are in Chesterfield co which is nowhere near Henry in 1790/1800 tax lists. There are only 6 corn familes listed total for Virginia.

Many thanks for this reference! Very interesting to see these Corn names. I also noticed another surname, Craddock, one of whom had married into one on my lines.

I just reread your last post about the 4 brothers all being from Patrick Co and how that is not anywhere near Chesterfield Co which is, of course, correct. However, the 4 brothers – George, John Peter, Jesse and Samuel were born in the eastern portion of Albemarle Co (which became Fluvanna Co). That is basically only one county west of Chesterfield Co. I have never heard of any family connection between the two counties but, unfortunately, there is more I don’t know than I do know. Thanks to many generous people, I have a database of over 3,000 Corns (various spellings) including over 1,000 Corn marriages going back as far as 1762. And I still haven’t even got a good start on all of it.

Good point on the counties!
Right now I think that more names and a bigger database is just plain confusing. Saj
October 27, 2005 at 3:41 pm #18969Here, I will confuse your data even more with a Riddle – Corn connection I just spotted.
RIDDLE, Application # 330074, female, married name RIDDLE, given name D. E., maiden name CORN, born 1870 in NC, residing in Madison, NC period 1906 – 1909, Soundex Code : R340
According to a post on a Riddle thread, she was one of the rejected Guion Miller applications. However, that post did not note her maiden name. Don’t know if it will help with the Saponi research or not, but her application may have interesting information for Corn or Riddle researchers.
It’s been a long time since I got one, but at that time you could get them a lot faster from Barbara Benge who had copied a bunch for her research. I imagine she still has a web site. Otherwise, you can go through the National Archives.

October 27, 2005 at 3:41 pm #19112Hi Brenda –
This would be Delicia Elizabeth CORN b. 27 Jul 1870 d. 11 Oct 1946. She was the daughter of Noah Parr Middleton CORN & Delicia Ellen FLETCHER. Noah was the youngest child of Rev. Noah Parr CORN and Elizabeth CAPPS. Elizabeth’s mother was Nancy Ann COOKSEY b. 1766 in Johnson County, NC. Nancy Ann COOKSEY is the one who was supposed to be NA but we have no difinitive proof. She married William CAPPS II abt 1791 in Greenville Dist, SC. 3 of the CAPPS children married CORNs all in Buncombe County (later Henderson County), NC around the 1820’s. They all lived around what is now Hendersonville, NC.
This is the branch of the family that produced so many Baptist preachers that preached primarily to the Indians in SW North Carolina, NE Georgia, and SE Tennessee. One or another of these preachers established most of the Baptist churches all through that area.
October 27, 2005 at 3:41 pm #19115This Riddle might be interested in that information. 😀
October 27, 2005 at 3:41 pm #19126Hi Rockhound –
Guion Miller Rolls –
Delicia Elizabeth (CORN) RIDDLE – Pg 252 – # 33074
Noah Parr Middleton CORN – Pg 65 – #29897 (as self)
– Pg 65 – #41638 (as guardian)
October 27, 2005 at 3:41 pm #20129I would like to issue a challenge to Bill Childs (and anyone else that is interested). This is really just a shameless request for help because I am quite impressed with what Bill manages to come up with.
Like all family legends, there are a number of mysteries involved with the Corn line. But one in particular that has stumped most of us for years.
John Peter Corn b. 1752 in Albemarle Co, VA married Hannah Elizabeth Parr b. 1764 in Henry Co, VA. They were married 24 May 1781 in Henry Co. John Peter & Hannah Elizabeth had 15 children; 10 boys and 5 girls. Now we can trace most of the children. But the 4th child is hard to trace. All we really know is this.
John Corn b. 20 Dec 1789 in Henry Co, Va. This would have been in the western portion of Henry Co since the family ended up in Patrick Co after it was created in Nov 1790. John Corn is said to have married Nancy Cook(e) b. c1793 probably in either Henry Co or Patrick Co, VA.
There is a John Corn that shows up on the 1830 census of Habersham Co, GA which is “probably” the John Corn is question. But then the trail goes cold. I have a dod of 27 Jun 1856 but I have no idea where that actually came from. It was just listed in a book with no source indicated.
Most of the family of John Peter Corn end up either in Buncombe/Henderson Co, NC or follow the oldest son Adam in to north GA as soon as it opens up for setlement.
John’s siblings are:
Adam 1783-1871
William 1785-?
Samuel Jackson 1787-1858
John 1789-1856(?)
Sarah “Sally”
October 27, 2005 at 3:41 pm #20130Sorry, I hit the wrong key. I’ll try that again
Adam 1783 – 1871
William 1785 – ?
Samuel Jackson 1787 – 1858
John 1789 – 1856(?)
Sarah “Sally” 1790 – 1874
Peter D. “Lot” 1792 – 1869
Arthur 1794 – 1847
Jesse 1796 – 1875
Elizabeth Parr 1797 – 1894
Mariam 1800 – 1802
Noah Parr 1802 – 1874
Silas Peter 1803 – 1884
Mathew Dewitt 1805 – 1892
Mary Ann 1807 – 1890
Adah 1811 – 1891
Your mission (should you choose to accept it) is to figure out where John Corn went and who his children were.
