What a surprise I had! There are others who have been told they have Blackfoot anscestry with no known connections to western USA Blackfoot…. I have little information. My husband’s family migrated to Grant, Florida about 1910 from the Green River and/or Black’s Ridge, Kentucky. My husband, Lonnie Clifton Black, and his father, Ira Virgil Black, both have classic Indian features as do most of the family.
His father’s mother was Rosa Lee Haggard who married Lindsey Grant Black July 10, 1894, in Casey County Ky. (Lewis Haggard and Charlotte Haage had twin girls, Celestus and Angeline, in Casey Counts, Ky Dec. 23, 1877.) The name Lindsey Black, age 28, also appears in the Pulaski County, Ky 1850 census. This 1850 census lists one additional Black household, Moses, age 69, and Katherine, age 62, (with 4 children?), and one Haggard household, Levi, age 22, and Margaret, age 27, with one son, Joseph, age 1. The Blackfoot ancestry is said to have come from Rosa Lee Haggard.

On the side of my family that was in N Alabama we have a John Brown who married Polly Black in Nov 1820, Lawrence County, Al. Census records later give Mary Brown, b @ 1801 in NC. Her parents “appear to be” Jonathan Black and Mary (maiden name unknown) who appear in Union County, Arkansas, later. I am not certain of this last bit, tho. Others have said these “Blacks” came from Ohio, and that made me think they might not be mne, but I was told they were just guessing about the Ohio connection and were not sure about that either. I I don’t know.
There is a Seneca-Cayuga tribe in NE Oklahoma that is federally recognized, by the way. I am wondering about their migration route to NE Ok. If there are Tutelo with the Cayuga and someone else mentioned some families with the Seneca called themselves “Shaponi”, well it is getting me curious. I really know very little about this tribe tho as they are not very big nor are they well know.

Bill, thanks for responding. I have not researched beyond the information that I included in my first post. This information was provided to me through the Kentucky Historical Society in 1992.
Just prior to receiving this information, I had also received a letter from the US Dept of the Interior informing me that the Blackfoot Tribe was unrecognized. I bought my first computer in 2002, and, after getting a dial-up internet connection, decided to attempt my research again this fall. I would appreciate any suggestion or assistance that you might offer.
