We are helping get all cemeteries in Person co, NC surveyed and on-line. We have digital camera and GPS unit and the guidance of the ancesters.
Today we discovered another “special” one. Deep in the woods overlooking the South Fork of Flat River downstream of Lick Creek……. between 100 and 200 fieldstones and depressions, euro style single graves but appearing to date back to 1700s…… very strong spirit in that place. This is land that would have been Collins, Gipson, Bolling, et al. Still overwhelmed by the place but wanted to post this…… if I say any more we will need to shift it to X-Files 😉
peace
Hi Dreamhawk,
Linda suggested i talk to you as you know so much about Flat Creek. Daniel Hamlin/Hamblen had land there in 1731 and a few other places. If you would like to see the documentaion i have some. Maybe too long for here.. I would really like to track this down. Have seen Saponi cabin’s and sweat house are also on Flat Creeek humm.. I want to make a trip and see all i can sometime soon. You are a very likely person that knows a lot more than i do. Pull up Hamlin/Hamblen Indians???? under geneaology for other names of spouses etc. Other surnames are Carr,Love, Howell, Tipton, spraberry/sprayberry and lots more. There are names of neighbors and partners etc on the documentation that may be of interest for many. Found one with William Sizemore for example.
Another relative just contacted me today about Hamblen cemeteries in Lee County. (didnt say what state.. People forget i am in South Dakota and dont know my way around back east) Maybe you have been to the place mentioned already. If so would love to know more.
Thanks in advance,
Janette

Lee county is in NC over one hundred miles south of where I live in Person co. There may well be a Flat Creek in Lee county if your documents say Flat CREEK. I live on the Flat RIVER. (Flatt River in 1731). None of those family names are on the Flatt River in the 1730s that I am aware of but I will keep checking my sources. I’ll read the thread you cited and see if anything looks familiar.

Here is but two of the many doucments of land patents or in this case refering to the land on Flat Freek Amelia co. Va. Have more i can send with specifics. thesedocuments are the shortist and best for here.
Deed Book 1, Amelia County, Virginia, pg. 333. John Hugins, Planter, of Rawleigh Parish to James Holloway, Planter. Dated 21 August 1741. Consideration 13 pounds. Wit: None. 198 acres U/S Flat Creek between lines of Edward Hubbard, James Collins, and William Hendrick, bounded in part by lines of Daniel Hamlin and William Hurt, being the tract patent to David Thomas on 1 February 1738.
John and George Combs often appear in Thomas Tabb’s list (Raleigh parish, between Deep and Flatt Creeks) in the early Amelia tax lists. These records also show that Thomas and Agnes MARKHAM, Daniel HAMLIN/HAMBLEN (from Charles City Co. line of HAMBLENS), and Frederick BLAKE were neighbors and associates of John Combs. In 1751
I have looked at maps til i am silly and thought i better ask. Maybe Pappy Dick or Techteach would know as they seem to know about mapes.
Thanks to anywon with more knowledge than me.

August 2, 2004 at 4:08 am #26740That would be a different waterway from the one I am researching. I have a book, if I can find it that would show the boundaries of Amelia co in that timeframe. That would give you a better idea of where to search but you do need to be looking in Va. This part of NC was not in dispute with Va over boundary in that timeframe.
