June 11, 2007 at 2:13 pm #26895Just a note that I attended my first Pow- Wow in Mebane over the past weekend and I felt a connection with my ancestors that I never knew. Where does the Regalia come from? Is this purchased from suppliers or hand made? I know one thing for sure after this first Pow Wow I will never be the same person. My heart has been touched! I look forward to attending many more and am anxious to learn all I can about my heritage.

June 11, 2007 at 2:13 pm #26899Thanks Becky for your kind words. I am reading everything I can get my hands on so I know it will be some time before I am ready to dance or participate so for now I am quite happy to watch and learn. Native Americans are for sure some of the best people I have ever met. Not one piece of trash did I notice on the ground at the POW WOW! I did meet several of the dancers and everyone was very happy to share with me. Thanks again.
June 11, 2007 at 2:13 pm #26901Hello,
Thanks all for your birthday wishes, it is nice to have this extended family, it would be nice if maybe we could have a gathering (at some time), where we could all meet in person.:) Blessings to all of you!

Shirley, I am in my 50’s and have lived all my life thinking I was completely of European descent. When I found out my ggggg… grandmother was Saponi it brought up a flood of thoughts and questions. When I went to the Pow Wow and watched the Grand Entrance I was quite overcome and realized these are my people. To watch the dancing and see my people still openly celebrating their heritage was quite moving. In my heart I always felt something was missing. I am a person of faith so that was not it! When I found out about my lineage and went to witness for myself I finally felt complete about who I am and where I came from. The spirit of our people and what’s inside came across to me. I am now complete.

PDA,
It sounds as if the experience was very fufilling for you:), thanks for sharing. I am looking forward to it…the community…the Spirit speaking through dance…and one never knows what blessings are waiting.
I know exactly what you mean about roots and their importance in one’s wholeness…I grew up not knowing my father or anything about his side of the family…except my mother told me he was Blackfoot…however, I was born in Kalispell, MT and I obviously thought MT Blackfoot?? I found out differently a couple years ago, when I ran across a cousin on a forum, who told me about our Gibson’s…Saponi/SE Blackfoot, but the journey is far from over as I want to search them out where they live…I want to walk where they have walked and feel their presence.
