It sounds as if the experience was very fufilling for you:), thanks for sharing. I am looking forward to it…the community…the Spirit speaking through dance…and one never knows what blessings are waiting.
I know exactly what you mean about roots and their importance in one’s wholeness…I grew up not knowing my father or anything about his side of the family…except my mother told me he was Blackfoot…however, I was born in Kalispell, MT and I obviously thought MT Blackfoot?? I found out differently a couple years ago, when I ran across a cousin on a forum, who told me about our Gibson’s…Saponi/SE Blackfoot, but the journey is far from over as I want to search them out where they live…I want to walk where they have walked and feel their presence.

I was very fortunate to live in the same county as my ancestors did all the way back to John Austin Sr who came to Virginia from England. I now live in Raleigh NC but all of my relatives still reside in Pittsylvania County, Virginia. I don’t think any one in the Austin family is aware of their heritage. I only hope they are as proud as I am to have Native American blood running through their veins. Thanks for sharing with me.

June 11, 2007 at 2:13 pm #26951Wow, Becky!!!
You go talking homemade ice cream on a hot summer day and you’ll have us all leaving hearth, or rather air-conditioner, and home for a turn of the ice-cream maker! 🙂
June 11, 2007 at 2:13 pm #26970Well, there’s nothing better in the good ole summertime here in the South. We go to Moriah every July 4th, and that’s what everybody brings. A whole container of homemade ice cream…and there’s every flavor from banana to strawberry…and none of it goes to waste.

Red Metis,
Thanks, no kind word is ever late…it’s right on time.:) BTW I did have a chance to make a variant (as I couldn’t find everything) of the recipe you gave me…it worked well. I also made a poultice of oregano and oils for my daughter…she gets dry scalp. I grow oregano for cooking, but was unaware of its healing traits. Thanks.:)

Good! I’m trying hard to follow in the footsteps of my Choctaw ancestress–the neighborhood herbal healer.:) You can try avocado oil for the scalp mixed with a few drops of rosemary essential oil. It is a bit heavy, though, but very nice.
I hope you enjoyed your b-day!
