My father’s mother (who is now 95) retired from Ridgeway Clocks…that’s in your area!
No kidding? When did she retire? My parents and I all worked there. Well, I didn’t stay very long. Was a summer job and I hated it. But she might know my folks. Dad was the maintenance foreman for several years. Name’s Howard.
Her name is Dessie Light and lives in Eden. Sadly, her mind (but she still goes like crazy!) is not the best so answers to any questions are not possible. Anyhow, I want to think she worked their in the late 60’s, early 70’s. She gave me a wall clock (grandmother’s clock?) from there shortly after I married in 1972. I’d really LOVE to have the grandfather’s clock she rec’d. when she retired!!!
I’m not great with dates. But if she was still there when the name changed (from Gravely Furniture), her time would overlap with my folks’.
Yeah, those clocks are world famous. Gorgeous stuff. Well, lots of beautiful furniture came from that area. :~(
Light? Just happens to be my parents’ neighbor’s name. Wonder if she might be related to Billy Light, of Ridgeway? It is also a “surname with possibilities” in my dad’s line, although I doubt we’ll ever find out for sure.
