Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
Who said that 2 year olds can’t remember when they were small? Well I had a battle with the hose and water at 2 years old.
Mama had cleaned me up and but my white cotton dress with red smocking on; brushed my long wild mame into a ponytail and tied a nice wide white satin ribbon like a bow, nice and crisp. I sported my white high top toe kickers on with nice white Buster Brown ankle socks and there I sat on the front porch step until my curious little mind wondered around the side of the porch to the hose. Well I peeked over my shoulder cause Mama told me “not to move off the steps.” Well that went right out the window…
I got up, snuck around the side, picked up the hose with one hand and turn that round wheel on top with the other hand, and out sprouted cold water all over me. Wide eye — I was soaked and ran in the house crying. Mama and my sister Maggie laughed at me as they towel dried me off.
That darn trickster hose!
Mom saves everything and on occasions, I will pull that dress out and look at it…
