I think I’m confusing a couple of people, so wanted to clarify here. At GEDmatch you are issued a kit # for DNA matches; however, they also allow you to upload your family tree in a GedCom format. (I took mine from Ancestry) and loaded it to GEDmatch and FTDNA sites. That allows the DNA kit owner to potentially see who their common ancestor is. The GEDmatch kit # that I linked my GedCom to is A134439. My GedCom number at GEDmatch is 7054265. Does this help clarify?
June 24, 2016 at 4:57 pm #38081Hi, Cheryl,
That confusion was all mine. I missed what you wrote the first time.
Here are my GEDmatch kit numbers again: A321312 and M959119
Here is my Gedcom number: 7995899
I hope these will work for you. 🙂

June 24, 2016 at 4:57 pm #38082Hi, Cheryl,
You match both my maternal cousin and myself on X on overlapping segments, with her at 11.2 cM and with me at 10.4.
When I compared the GedComs, a pair of Morrisons came up, which is interesting. We might be related that way as well, but I can’t tell. That’s my mother’s father’s father’s line, so I don’t get my X-chromosome from the Morrisons.
I’d love to know what you find out.

William Edward Morrison is the son of Maranda Augusta “Emma” Keene. Emma Keene is the daughter of Anna (BROWER) Keene. Anna Brower is the twin sister of my Nancy Brower. The twins are elder sisters to Mark Snelling’s Barbara Brower. Do you DNA match Mark too? Your William Morrison appears to be a different William than mine. If you’re not a match to Mark, then our connection is not through Morrison/Brower and we’ll need to keep looking.
June 24, 2016 at 4:57 pm #38084Anyone, if Luann and I have an X match, does that mean I should be looking at her mother’s line and my mother’s line? Thanks so much.

With men X matches have to be through the mother, but with women it can be from either side. Women inherit their father’s mother’s X chromosome. X DNA can not pass between two consecutive males. So you can rule out both of your father’s fathers line, and any other line that goes through 2 males as you go back in the tree. So with each generation 1 of 4 grandparents lines is eliminated as a possibility.
Blaine Bettinger has created some useful X inheritance charts for males and females that helps outline this. http://thegeneticgenealogist.com/2008/12/21/unlocking-the-genealogical-secrets-of-the-x-chromosome/
Hope that helps.

No, my DNA does not match Marc Snelling’s, so it is not likely that we are related that way. It is probably one of the X-lines in our charts. I have just read that some of the DNA on X persists longer than other chromosomes, because of the way it is inherited by a daughter from her father, see http://smithplanet.com/stuff/x-chromosome.htm. So the match that we have might be older than we suspect.

I ran my X-lines compared to your complete list of surnames on ancestry.com. These are my X-line surnames I found that could match your list. I don’t know which of your surnames are x-line, as I couldn’t open your tree.
