While researching some of my Saponi ancestors, descendants of Moses Riddle, I contacted a person who had posted what seemed to be my line of Riddles. In talking with her concerning the Native American stories, she brought up that the Riddles were connected with Jesse James through my g-g-g-g-grandma’s family, the West’s of Bledsoe County, TN.
Like any other time I hear something like this I think, okay, sure…everyone wants to be connected somehow. My mother has said that her dad’s side was connected to Jesse James or some other guerilla Confederates. Again, without proof, I don’t buy it (I am from the Show Me State).
Well, first I find out that John Riddle, grandson to William “Tory” Riddle and first cousin to my g-g-g-g-grandpa became a Mormon married his fourth wife, Suzannah Quantrille in 1853. I have yet to look into this but who knows.
Second, I start digging into Jesse James’ genealogy and what do I discover? His uncle was Tillman West and his ancestors had the surname Poor (Malinda West, my g-g-g-g-grandma had two Poors living with her and her children in the 1850 Pulaski County census). To top it off, Jesse’s ancestors came from Goochland, VA (John Riddle’s birthplace) and Hanover, VA (supposedly Moses Riddle’s birthplace). Oh, and there is a Gibson in there too.
Who knows, maybe my family isn’t just making stuff up. It’s hard to know when you have surnames like Riddle and Storie…:D I’ll keep looking.

December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23911Frank James’ wife was a Ralston. My grandmother was a Ralston. Deb’s grandmother or g-grandmother was a Ralston, both descendents of brothers from PA who married Indian women, the story being Blackfoot.
Anyway, my great-aunt’s book says that one of my Ralston relatives talked with Frank James when he was in St. Louis or Chicago, I forget which city, when he was with the Wild West show. Frank was reported to have said that they were second cousins.

December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23913Well jinkies folks!!! How do I post a pic on here? I have a neat old tintype copy of Jesse James…who, as it turns out is also related to my maternal line of Jett’s….*rolls eyes*….yes, I’m blonde….some assistance please…since we’re all related apparently…you’ll forgive my “spaciness” when it comes to some computer things! (Right?!?) ((((((hugs)))))___Laurie
December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23914I’m hoping this works ya’ll but a cousin of mine, Catherine Jett, is the owner of this pic…it was found in some family album…story has it that Jesse was somehow related to my maternal Jett line and was, in fact, “hid out” by some of my Jett ancestors when he was “running from the law”. Neato….kinda? I have a pic of Annie Oakley too but that tintype is really pale and very hard to see. ((((hugs))))~~~~Laurie
December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23915OMG!!!! I did it!!!! Yippee! *Jumps in the air and does a split* Shucks…we blonde’s aint so dum after all….y’all. *smiles profusely*~~~Laurie
December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23916Ok…I’m am admittedly wide awake so I dug into my Jesse James files and wanted to post a link that has some right groovy pics. URL:
http://www.islandnet.com/~the-gang/frankpic.htm
FYI: as it turns out…Jesse is connected to my Jett, Cole & Gibson lines…go figure. This “family tree” is looking more and more like a hedge row surrounding two buildings in a figure eight pattern. *eye roll*
Enjoy the pics…I think he was a right handsome young fella…but he had some kind of “look” in his eyes in later pics I think. Blessings~~~Laurie
December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23917Jesse had a hideout near Strawberry Point, Iowa also. I have a picture of this hideout somewhere. This is about 60 miles from where my Ralstons initially settled in Iowa. Both towns are on the Maquoketa River: Canton is downriver, while Strawberry Point is upriver.

December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23947Tom,
I have Hardins in my family, also. As I was reading through the thread, I was thinking of them and then saw your messages. Joseph Roberts and Hannah Hardin Roberts were my GGGranddparents. I know she was related to John Wesely, but not how. Do you have any info on the Hardins that you could share? I don’t have much on my end.
Thanks,
Nick

December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23964What Green line? There are at least two Green lines here, one that follows the Gardner Green line (I think – search for Dan Akin and you will find a description of this line) and mine that comes from originally from MD, moves to WV, then OH and finally, for my particular branch, IA.

December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23968I haven’t yet researched the Greens. They are cousins to my dad. All from back in south-central Missouri.
December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23978Likely Dan Akin’s Line. Might want to search here for the Greens. It might help when you start looking at that line.
Some Hardins were around my Green descendents in IA, though.

December 3, 2006 at 3:24 am #23979Hey Tech, I also have a Greene line but so far it ends with an “E”. Must be Dan Akins Greens since they could be Sc, possibly Griffin and Goens aswell.
