Since this is about Tutelo…and constructing it..I thought I would share what I came across.
There is a Lakota (and family languages, at least ones mentioned) happening end of Nov 2008. I thought I would share this info…(below).
It would be wonderful if someone could attend and broach the subject of what is being done re Tutelo! (That a remnant is trying to rebuild along with other efforts as well (such as with that university student/teacher as per article a couple of years ago).
Here is ad:
Tusweca Tiospaye presents
The Lakota/Nakota/Dakota Language Summit 2008 – Uniting the Seven Council Fires to Save the Language
The Power Of Our Lakota/Nakota/Dakota Language
As a people of energy and a people of connectivity to all that is… our greatest journey begins today, with one step.
And that step is from the depths of ones heart to the reality of recognizing the POWER of our spoken word… our Lakota/Nakota/Dakota language.
It is said that once spoken, a sound never dies.
Like ripples on the water, it reverberates on and on and finds harmony with all that it touches. This rhythm helps us as a people to set events in motion.
It was also said by one of our visionaries…. “Let us put our minds together and see what kind of life we can make for our children.” — Sitting Bull.
We can live up to the ideals of our visionaries by taking that step, together… and by doing so, give our children “a voice”… this voice is carried out through the language, the language is the sound… the power of this sound has been heard throughout our generations.
It vibrates in the rhythm of all we are today.
This sound, is the feeling of all we represent, all of life connected… that feeling is the language to the soul… to our center, that within each of us… that which connects us to all that is… this keeps us, as a people, in harmony with each other.
Keeps us in sync with our past.
Help us to sustain the power of our Lakota/Nakota/Dakota Language, through the voices of our children.
“All we have done rests on the shoulders of those who came before us… and all that we will do, will map the directions for those to come.” … these actions and these choices will ring on, and on, far beyond our years…

Tatanka Iyotaka – Sitting Bull
The last major gathering of the Oceti Sakowin (Seven Council Fires) was in 1876. It was Sitting Bull that brought the people together to live the traditional way of life that had been given by their ancestors. During this gathering of the people, George A. Custer and the 7th Cavalry attacked their peaceful camp and were quickly wiped out by men and women as they defended their homes, their children, their elders, and their way of life.
Today, 130 years later we’re asking Tatanka Iyotaka to once again unite the Seven Council Fires to celebrate and defend our way of life by revitalizing our language.
THE TIME IS NOW!
Let me know of you would like a poster of this image and I will send you via email a large format JPEG for you to print out.
