I wanted to let everyone know that I really appreciate all of the support and researched information I’ve received since my first day registered here. I was wondering if someone could help me trace my Grandfathers’ family history.

Alex or Alexander Lewis, born 1900. (Grand Daddy)

AND

Samuel or Sam or Sammy Townes (Grand Daddy)….his father’s name was Aron or Erin or Arron Townes (Great Grand Daddy)

What does NEG and MU mean?

Would you also be able to look up Mary (Terry) Daves….she was my Great Great Grandmother….I believe she lived in North Carolina 🙂

That is the “race” of the person as judged by the census taker, which was usually too subjective to be taken too seriously. Native people were often misidentified.

I don’t often list race but thought you had asked about this before.

“Neg” is Negro.

“Mu” is Mulatto.

“B” is Black.

My Great Great Grandmother, Mary (Terry) Daves, married Anderson Daves.

My Great Granddaddy, Willie Hargrove, Sr., was born in December 31, 1882 and died on June 23, 1953.

His parents, my Great Great Grand Parents were James Hargrove and Isabella (not sure of her maiden name) Hargrove.
