SUE J. I will be happy to post the info on J.A. Corn and his wife Elizabeth and their children (including mary) I also have the aprox. ages of their children and bits from the census that shows them living with Elizabeth in her old age. For some reason I was so sad to see that….don’t know why but this one just made me sad that the kids lost both their parents so young….usually it was the parents losing child after child.
Be careful with some of the CORN stories though…most of them are bunk with a shred of truth tossed in:) The only thing we can really count on is the recorded events and documents.

Nanoskatches – welcome to this forum! 🙂 I’ve been following your story and information with great interest and am eager to see you post your information. I had a great aunt that was married to a “Corn” in Southern Indiana. (I don’t have all their info right now where I can give it to you, but I’ll look up some info on them and post it for you later). Her maiden name was “Arnold” Her mothers maiden name was “Thomas”. They eventually moved from Indiana to Iowa. Any way – Welcome. 🙂

Hi Kerry, I’ll be glad to look in my Corn Patch…yes many Corn’s went on into Indiana….the dern problem is the different clans were bunnies with the babies…I’ve rarely come across another group quite so prolific across the board:)

I also have a CORN in the family tree.
On my mother’s side Thomas Perry and Catherine Fisher married in Pa and later migerated to Washington Co. Ohio. Thomas and Catherine had a daughter, Mary Perry born 1799 Lycoming,Pa. who married WILLIAMS CORNS, March 16, 1826, Washington County,Ohio. Don’t know where he came from or where they went.

I just wanted to add a passage from Swanton’s book, ca. 1748, “The Indians of the Southeastern United States” page 163, “Asaquah, the head beloved man of Nautaugue, Connewawtenty of Conneststageh and about sixty others of different towns of Natiwaga Nation (Nottaway) of Indians now in Keowee in the Cherokees.”
And “by a mixed party of Indians known as Notowega or Nittaweega, who fled into the Cherokee country for protection.”
“The pramble to their ‘talk’ to Governor Glenn, written soon after their arrival, suggests that they were a mixed band of Iriquois, Savannah, and Conestoga.”
So you see, some Conestoga may have taken up with the Lower Cherokees of Keowee.

Still holding my own. Thanks for thinking of me. We had a great family Xmas. My kids all got together and gave me a brand NEW
pentium 4 computer with windowes XP. I am in my glory. The old onle was built in 1997 and had a mind of it’s own. I would be in the middle of something and it would just shut down.
This year will start me on dialysis. I am looking forward to it tho it sounds a little scary. I am told I will feel much better once the toxins are cleaned out of my system. Right now I nap a lot and try to keep my mind on my family history. If I work on that then I don’t think so much about the other stuff.
Yes, I guess those CORNs really did get around. There is a picture of my grandmother on the thread below. I sent it to Linda several years ago to post. Does she look NDN to you?

a guess would be that she died and he remarried. There are a LOT of corns in Lawrence Co. with and without the S.

Page 544: …Saponi families of Heathcock and Whitmore are recorded in Highland co. Ohio from 1807 thru 1870 and Heathcock, Guy, Corn, Bullen and Jeffries are residing in Greene Co. OH beginning n the 1820s and Heathcock, Goings and Pettifords in Ross Co. Ohio in the 1830s, and Jones, Coker, Corn, Stewart and Harris families are recorded in Gallia and Lawrence co. Ohio in the early 1820s. Saponi families are also living in Logan Co. Ohio in the 1820s.
Dan, there was a great deal of movement of Indians from the North to the South (and vice versa) until 1794 or 5.
In old papers these were sometimes called “the Northwards Indians” who occasionally were living with the Cherokee. Cherokee also went to the North from time to time. But these people almost always returned to their families.
It is insteresting that it mentions the Nottaway tho — as I was thinking these “Northwards” were Six nations or Shawnee or Miami and all their allies. If they were also Virginia and Maryland Indians also, this could be considered evidence for some family stories of Blackfoot/Cherokee ancestors.

Linda, I think you are correct with the idea that where there is a “Blackfoot” township, mine, cemetary, church, etc. it is most likely associated with Saponi/Tutelo and with Felicia’s Bracey, this blackfoot mine, Louisiana Blackfoot, The one Vance found in I believe Virginia, our Pike County, Indiana one. I want to get all of this together in one place with all of our historical data and families. I think it is a crucial step to getting this “all” together. What do you think? What does any of you think?
Also, I saw Corn and Collins in Kerry’s Leslie Cemetary post I think it’s on the Geneology Forum! 🙂 It’s a massive list of folks but well worth checking over. We’re trying to pinpoint Blackfoot locations and that there is another one. I get too overly excited sometimes, so tell me truly if I’m all wet! It’s o.k. I can take it! I love You Guy’s, G’night!
