Mousini and Dreaminghawk
Pila huk, again for bringing the area events to life for us scattered as stars across earth mother, especially for the sharing of cultural and spiritual teachings and values and correct and reverent pow wow and dance etiquette. Your grandson sounds adorable. I’m not aware of a snake dance out this way. Could you or anyone please describe it?<O:p</O:p
This particular snake dance was a public dance…and the head dancer made a line and took the folks in a circle like a coiling snake…kinda like a round dance to me. It was another way of getting the public involved…and pretty innovative. They also did the round dance and two step (our personal favorite).

Thanks. The shirt came from a place where Ken and I rented our wedding outfits, it’s muslin. The skirt was gifted to me by an older lady (now deceased) who had it made and wore it for a centennial celebration in our county. The shawl is material that Ken’s aunt gifted me before she passed. The fan was a gift from Ken at our first Christmas and was made by John Blackfeather Jeffries, as was my knife. The neckerchief was one that my first husband used in the Boy Scouts, and the necklaces are all assorted for many different meanings. You can’t see the boots, but, they are white doeskin, gifted to me by Ken for my birthday. This is what I think Susannah Minchew (1800s – Person county) would have worn. May be now some folks will recognize me at the pow wows…..I had on the same regalia at Cheroenhaka.

Y’all should see them dancing. It is an inspiration for me.
I enjoyed Martinsville, when I wasn’t craning my neck looking for relatives/thinking I saw them. ;~)
Thanks, Bee…your time is coming, too. May be next spring, eh?? There is nothing like dancing for Creator…it’s what spurs me on to get up at the crack of dawn and drive 4 hrs.
May be next year your father will be able to join us….and you will have more time to let the relatives know….your “family” was already there, ya know….
Why thank you beeleaf! Yes it is…about ’77 or ’78 I’d say. I don’t look too much different other than lighter hair…in my minds eye anyway. When I first saw Shirley’s picture I felt there was something there. I always looked much different than people around me till here. I have a photo where I think I look much like Brenda too.
Hehe, my hair got lighter, too. ;~)

Here’s a really bad one of me from around the same time. Didn’t wear the hair long after this, but am trying to grow it out a bit now.
You look adorable Bee. You haven’t changed much either. Both this photo of you and the woman in your last avatar put me in mind of this picture of my Father’s Mother, Goldie May Derflinger. Lot’s of tree people here. And you remind me of my 1st Cousin who is the baby here:

Wow, your grandmother does look familiar. The woman who was in my avatar before I put me in there was my great grandmother Mattie Bouldin Foley. She is from the Collins, Holt, & Bouldin + Bowling side, with a splash of Foley. Her Collins and Bowling are both in one of Richard Haithcock’s books, listed as Occaneechi-Saponi heads of family.
