Jordan was another name of one of his sons. This is also out of the normal naming pattern.

Oh Man Oh man I may be grasping at straws here but I just pulled up the 1880 census in Halifax county. Caleb Etheredge named three of his sons names that were out of the normal pattern those name were Ransom, Jordan and Dempsey. Anyway on the census the Ramson and Dempsey are listed as mulatto. The Jordans are white. Did I just find a possible link to the identity of their mother? Help ladies!!!!! Thank you so much Jade for the reference to Ransom. I never thought until tonight those boys could have been named names that were in association with their mother. Also my sister told me she believes Lurana’s mother was a Hodges but not sure yet. Isn’t Hodges another of those NA names?

Warren County, VA would be very close to where my Greens were from. You say they were Indian? Do you know the tribe? My Greens lived in a town that has streams and churches named after the Tuscarora, but I have found some evidence that they might have been Monacan.

Techteach,
I don’t know what part of Va they were from, but I have only known them living in Warren Co. NC
