Josiah Peak(e)Parents:
Siblings: Juda,Patti,Seth Albemarle Co., VA
O no, actually I didn’t. I had a worksheet on Josiah Peake’s children. There were a lot! This is good to know my cherokee friend. Thank you so much for this helpful information. I have tried as have Rebecca Sisk for many years to get this information!! We were stuck with the parents!!! So many blessings.
May 24, 2005 at 5:39 am #29858Yes,
Catherine Dolly Sizemore d/o Chief “Ned” Sizemore married James Hart II, (I think) not James I. She had two or more daughters. Cornelia Hart married Uriah Peake s/o Josiah Peake. These are my GGrandparents. Clemmy Peake was d/o Uriah and Cornelia (Hart) Peake. She was the lovliest Grandmother. I saw her pic! O I think Aruna Hart married George Sizemore which was Catherine’s brother?? Not sure this is another beautiful legend. Thank you for the Hart Dawe’s information. More likely than not they are related!!

Much Thanks! This gets George Sizemore’s part and James Hart’s connection straight for me.
George was Catherine’s son! Margery was Cornelia’s sister so I am told by family members. They married some Peake brothers Hugh and Uriah who faught in the Civil War!

May 24, 2005 at 5:39 am #29901Hello, just wanted to say hi, I suppose we are distant cousins on these lines. May 24, 2005 at 5:39 am #29903Hi Steve-o,
Does your Skaggs line have a Malinda? My ancestor Malinda married Wiiliam Dodd in Monroe County (WV). Any relation?
May 24, 2005 at 5:39 am #29906If Melinda traces back to Peter Skaggs & Martha Cohun then she would be from my ancestral line. I looked online and it seems no one is quite sure who Melinda’s parents were…sorry if this too is your case as I have no idea. My Skaggs were the “Longhunter Skaggs” said to have come over the Cumberland Gap in Kentucky with Daniel Boone.
The town of Martha, outside of Blaine Kentucky was named after my ancestress Martha Cohun Skaggs (Cherokee). Most of my ancestors settled in Blaine & I am 6th cousins with Bluegrass artist Ricky Skaggs, not that “that” means anything. Peter & Martha Cohun Skaggs being our common ancestors.
That’s really all I can tell you.
May 24, 2005 at 5:39 am #29908Sizemore DNA Project/males/early Sizemores:
Hey Melungeon,
I have heard of it. I was telling another distant cousin that the DNA test has to come from the male in the family, if it is on your paternal side. Is this right? I read the DNA results and am still trying to understand the genetic markers. Do you understand what they are telling us?? Blessings!
May 24, 2005 at 5:39 am #29909Skaggs and Calhoun:
Is this any relation to Nashville’s(Davidson Co) Ricky Skaggs the musician, maybe distantly???
May 24, 2005 at 5:39 am #29912Ricky Skaggs is from Blaine Co. Kentucky. Same person you are speaking of who played with Emmylou Harris, has a band called Kentucky Thunder. Etc.
The name on the marriage bond is Cohun, not Calhoun.
