May 24, 2005 at 5:39 am #29923Well, the Dna for my one forbear George Sizemore ( not confirmed any parents for him yet) a direct male desc has tested Q3 which is Native American DNA. So this is belying the myth that the marriages were all Anglo men taking NDN women as spouses. This shows a male NDN. The Sizemores were also Tories during the revolution and I have found these gentlemen on the list of SC Loyalists. This is also an indication not of Cherokee but other Native Americans that backed the English such as some Creek and Catawaba. He married a cousin Lydia Sizemore dtr of owen Sizemore and Elizabeth Bingham, these are my 4 great grandparents. Their daughter Agatha ( aggie ) Sizemore married into my Melungeon 3x granpaw Zachariah Minor. These Sizemores were in both early North carolina and South carolina until moving to Hawkins County Tennessee. And as you know some moved on into Kentucky and Ohio.
Basically the DNA can only tell male line all the way back and female line all the way back, nothing in between at this point. Its use for geneology is more for relationships of different family names and well as the same names. it at this point is only a guide, but it does prove that there is NA in at least some of the Sizemore lines, and it was a male in this particular instance.
ANDERSONS:
AS for my Andersons, they migrated from Virginia to Kentucky via Hawkins County Tennessee as well. It seems that this side of my family took the same trails.
James Anderson born circa 1802 in Virginia married MAry Polly Bonham.( of the Grayson county Bonhams)
Their son Eli Anderson b. 1834 in Va married Margaret Stamper b 1840 in VA ( her parents stopped in Lee Co Va on their way into Kentucky Richard Stamper and Mary Brender ( she being one of my deadends, their beginnings are both in North Carolina)
Their son Elijah Anderson b. 12-11-1973 in Jessemine Co KY married Laura Hopkins b. 1876 in Kentucky.
they had my grgrandmaw Magaret Mae Anderson also born in Kentucky. She was very dark, but from what I have gathered through talking with other researchers, the Hopkins ( also thru the Hawkins/Lee Co area) were the dark part of the family.
I also have Andersons on my paternal side but the earliest I have is a James Anderson as well b circa 1817 but in Ohio. He was my 3x granpaw whose daughter Henrietta b. 1851 in Ohio and d.1928 was my grgrgranmaw. I have not been abel to find anything beyond james in this family. The earliest I fain him is on the 1840 census of Ohio.
Sorry for long post:D Tari

Unknown Grandchildren of Sara Peak.
This picture was taken in Grayson Co, or Wise Co Va.
It appears in the 1940’s. If any Peak or Hash relative out there can identify this family, I would appreciate it!!
I think “Bud” and Mary Hash had the first telephone put in Indian Creek, Va Grocery Store!
Find the photo of Sara Peak and Mary Hash by clicking on hyperlink:
Please Help!! Who are the Grandchildren? Who did Sara Peak marry? Is this Mary “Bud’s” wife?
May 24, 2005 at 5:39 am #31071Hello Hash/ Peak Friends and Relatives: Daughters: Riley Stephen Hash! Please look at photo!!
I am trying to find information on these Hash sisters. I know that they all have the same father Riley Steven Hash. I know that “Bud” Hash had the first telephone in Indian Creek, Va history!! It was located in his store. He is Martha Lou Hash Carter’s brother.
John, Andrew, and Martha were born of Little Clementine Celia Peak/ “Clemmy”
The other Hash’s were born of a Baker/Stallard??? Cora,Cosby,Cindy,Zuella Hash. Riley Stephen Hash was married twice!
Who are these sisters? Do I have the name right? Who was his second wife. My beautiful Grandmother “Clemmy” Peak Hash had black hair like Ravens feathers. She died giving birth to my Uncle.
I grew up around these ladies in Robinson Hollow of Wise Co Va!

Some time ago I was contacted by a member of the Chickahominy tribe in Virginia, pertaining to my ancestor having the same name as his. My ancestors name was Littleberry Adkins.
My Adkins family originated in the area of the Chickahominy swamp lands, and the Tidewater area of Virginia.
The family migrated to West Virginia.
What I have found, after the email from the Chickahominy member, is that my ancestor may be buried on Chickahominy tribal lands. His name was William Adkins.
Also buried on the tribal land is a Littleberry Adkins as well, though this is not my Littleberry, but may be the guy who emailed me’s Littleberry.
Anyway, the possibilities are that my Adkins branch was either Chickahominy or Saponi.
The plot thickens in that my Parker Adkins, s/o William Adkins, is said to have married Shawnee Chief Cornstalk’s daughter Bluesky. This is still being debated. Family lore is that Parker married Bluesky by Shawnee rite while still married to Mary ? .
To date no last name for Mary has been given that is correct. Most often the last name giiven is for Parker’s son Parker Jr. who also was married to a Mary.
Ironically, my ancestors Mitchell and Pheobe Clay had their family attacked by a band of Shawnee. One being taken and burned at the stake.
Then we get to my Skaggs branch which has my ancestor Peter Skaggs married to Martha Cohun who was Cherokee. They lived in the Big Sany region (Blaine) and the nearby town of “Martha” was named after her. And yes Bluegrass legend Ricky Skaggs is related (a distant 6th cousin).
My Hale branch stops just a few generations back, but it is speculated that they may have Native American ancestry as well. This is based on family photos and a painting of the family.
Anyway, I will have some questions later. Just wanted to give a brief background, as it pertains to Native Americans, first.
Steve
What are your Hale family ties. My GreatGrandMa was Martha Jane Hale born in Miller Co., MO August 1889. Her parents were Silas W.(Wayne?) Hale and Malinda Snelling, married July 8, 1883 in Miller Co., MO. I have no more info about this family line.
