Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
William and Mary (the university, not the couple) have been doing a project this past year digitizing colonial history texts. I did all the references to Indians in the “Executive Journals of the Colonial Council, 1680 – 1699” last fall, and just finished three of the narratives concerning “Bacon’s Rebellion” The rebellion is very important to Piedmont Siouan, since the massacre of the Occonechee in Clarksville, VA was the effort that precipitated the marginalization of all these tribes.
There’s more to come. I still have to proof Berkeley’s and Sherwood’s accounts, and still have to find Bacon’s testimony. There’s also supposed to be some soldier’s statements floating around. Enough for now. My trapezius have turned into concrete. I need a break. 🙂 🙂 🙂
BTW, “Great Trading Path” is my web store. All these historical texts are in the public domain, so it’s perfectly kosher to use them, and offering relevant content is considered the conservative “high road” in promoting a site.
