Hi Linda,
I received some information regarding a scheduled family reunion for next month here in Ohio. My mother’s people I know pretty much who and where they came from, they are Saponi. However for the past few years I have been trying to locate some of my dad’s folks too. I got information recently regarding why I have not been able to locate them. They were from Nowata Co. The information was matching what I had as far as siblings and dates I was however told that most of these folks refused to buried in the ground and demanded to remain above ground, some were left alone to die in the state institutions, etc. It was very sad as I did not know this. Does anyone recoginze any of the names?
Hightower, Cummings, Caliman, Marshall, Ginn, Lucas, Tate, Lett, Earley, Mcginnis, Peyton, Brown, Stewart/Stuart.
They shared information on who I thought was my Stewarts (I have Stewarts on both sides of my family, the “Stewarts” were named Logwood before they became Stewart. I thought the Stewart’s were Saponi , got me wondering, hmmm?
I will get to meet them July 20th, they have 45 coming on the bus.
Many Blessings,
tasheaka

Here it should be noted that Walnut Ridge Methodist Church has drawn some if its most staunch Methodists and strongest leaders from pioneer families in the western district of Lawrence County. It will be remembered that the Spring River Circuit, which includes part of Western Lawrence County, was the first pastoral charge organized in Arkansas in 1815 by the Rev. Eli Lindsey. It was this same year that Nevil Wayland came to Arkansas and his son, Jonathan Wayland. They, with Hugh Rainwater and Terra Stuart and their families, organized a Church on Flat Creek. Jonathan Wayland became a local preacher and so did Hugh Rainwater.
To the present generation of Waylands and Rainwaters (many of whom have held membership in Walnut Ridge) belong the distinction of being descendents of the first Methodist Church organized in Arkansas.

Stuart/Stewart is a very common name so it could be a coincidence.
