I am headed for Florida this week. We have a conference at Disney resorts. Our daughter is going with us. It will be nice to leave this cold behind for a few days before the semester starts.

January 12, 2005 at 6:17 pm #13209Have a wonderful time! It was a welcome break for me too. We had one day when the clouds were fairly light and it was warm enough to have lunch by the hotel pool. Gotta love that! 🙂
January 12, 2005 at 6:17 pm #13211Well, I woke up this morning to -10 and the high today is supposed to be 8. Last week it was thunder snow here also…this week it’s too cold to breathe. I better keep stoking the wood burner!!

January 12, 2005 at 6:17 pm #13213I don’t know if this is the place for this…but I get up every AM and turn on “Good Morning, America” and look at the weather and the day’s news. Today is Martin Luther King Day and alot of family & friends of mine have the day off today. (I have to go to work!) Last night I watched the “Golden Globe” awards and I was reminded of the Oscars when Halley Barry won Best Actress and how excited everyone was for Black American’s to win these awards…this AM there was a tribute to Martin Luther King on GMA. I am thrilled and happy for this recognition for these excellent actors and actresses and for Martin Luther King….however……where is the National Holiday and recognition for Native Americans? I’m sure this has probably been addressed somewhere on this board already and I may be beating a dead horse here….but the awards given for “Hotel Rowanda” got me thinking about this…there are thousands of stories about Native Americans yet to be told…..truely deserving Native Americans yet to be recognized….do we just need to yell louder so someone will hear?
Here in Iowa we are now hiring bi-lingual teachers to teach in Spanish and English…..and yet…Indians have lost their native tongues because they weren’t allowed to speak it!! On TV you have Black and Spanish channels…but I have yet to find a Native channel. It seems in this “melting pot” we live in…any group can get recognition but the Indians.
OK…I’ll step off the soap box now….it’s just heavy on my heart today……

I told you not to send your cold temps our way…..We got 4 inches of snow last night that has now turned to ice and the wind is howling. We are suppose to get 6-9 more inches on top of the ice and an undetermined amount for Wednesday.
They called for snow for the Pats game but they can turn it off now that they won.

Anyhow, that’s okay. I had a few days off of work and now that’s over. It is dark and cold and snowy here and very hard to get up at 4:30 am.
Take care all you snowbirds! 😎 Sue J
January 12, 2005 at 6:17 pm #13247Sorry, guys, I am now in FL. However, I was cold today. My daughter had her peacoat from WI and I envyed her. I had a dress jacket and spring jacket over it and was chilly. But, there were still people swimming.

And all. Sorry I haven’t been on and checking anything the last few days. The world has gone upside down here. Sort of in between panic attacks anger and shock. Give me a few days & I’ll try to be back to my old self. I love you guys. Lynella. P.S. The sun is shining and I’m wearing a tank top! It’s absolutely Colorado.

January 12, 2005 at 6:17 pm #13282Yesterday, my daughter and I were poolside in 70 degrees but my husband, who flew back to Chicago for a job interview, said they were expecting 9-12 inches of snow.
Sorry for rubbing it in, y’all, but tomorrow, I fly back to the 9-12 inches myself.
