Thank you so much for your question, because it may be a lead to some questions I have concerning my g-uncle,Shade Shadrach Banks and his sister,my g-grandma, Annie Sara Banks who are the son and daughter of Sara Sally Hall. My grandfather, Ed Sturgill, said that his grandmother was indian, but I never knew what kind. I see their pics andthey all had thick black hair and dark complexions. They look like they could be shawne or blackfoot. I am like you trying to put the history together.
May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #29457Sandra,
I don’t know if my Hall’s will connect to yours. I have Moses Hall born about 1793 in Va, died after 1880 in Ky. He married Rhoda New May 28, 1813 in Wayne Co., Ky. As far as I know they had five children Anna, Oma, William, Susan and Riley. As for having Native Blood I don’t know. Some say that Rhoda’s father John Wesley New had NB.
May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #29462You know that name sounds familiar. I know Alfred Hall and his brother’s and sisters had several kids. So may be they are related I will have to research more. Moses sounds familiar. There were a lot of cherokees after the trail of tears that migrated to se kentucky so I would not doubt about Mr. Wesley.

A few of your surnames are the same as families that lived around mine in KY and VA:) Mine beebopped in and out of NC/VA along the Piedmont and took a short respite in TN. before moving to KY, VA, WV. My 4xgrandfather George was born in Perry, KY and then the family went to Pike/Floyd. I think my Adkins were from Grayson, VA.
I will keep hunting and see what I can find.

Sally/Sarah A HALL
Born: 1813, KY
Her parents were also born in Kentucky.
She married: James E CRYSTAL
By 1860 they were living in Lexington, Fayette Co KY
Her son: George Washington CRYSTAL
George’s daughter: Ettie Marshall CRYSTAL, my gggrandmother.
Ettie’s other surnames are DEANE, SMITH, MEADE, SANDIFER, STOVALL, and BAILEY. I trace these names back to the 1600’s in Manakin Town (Huguenot settlement) and Powhatan County Virginia, but they all ended up in SW Virginia for a while before moving on to Kentucky in the late 1700’s. I haven’t traced any of these ancestors directly to the Huguenots (they appear to be all English), but I swear my ancestors’ siblings did their darndest to marry as many Huguenots as possible.
May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #30321Hey spilleddi I know that I’ve read most of your posts but can’t rememeber if you have been into the Pocahantas ancestors?…. I ask because my husband is related to the Meades of Virginia and the Meades seemed to have hung out heavily with the Rolphs and the Pocahantas descendents. Some inter -marriage between these groups.
May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #30324There is no story of Pocahontas as an ancestor in my family, they just say Indian, although they do say our Indian ancestors met the first English boats to came to Virginia shores. I know theres Deanes who are Pocahantas descendents from were my Deanes are from in the Powhatan county area in Virginia, but my Deanes are a dead end.
Heres what I know about my Meade family. They may be from somewhere around New Kent or Chesterfield Virginia
Martha MEADE
Born between 1760 and 1770 in Virginia
Married Jeremiah GLENN
Born around 1765 in Hanover county Virginia
