My Halls came from Montgomery Co., NC. A fourth cousin’s father did a Y-DNA test, and his results were R1b. We share the same gr-great grandfather, Pinckney Hall, who was born in NC and died during the Mexican War. Before him, it seems the other Halls hatched out of eggs. His wife’s family came from England/Ireland and/or Germany. Still trying to make sense of it all.
May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #33300Sandra,
Are you familiar with the Sarah Tyner John Harris story of she being his mistress and bearing him three children? She is in his will but so is his wife. There is speculation that she may have been a mixed-blood child herself and a DNA study was supposed to be in the works but I find no confirmation of any of this. The one son, Harris Tyner, married Nancy Adair. From this line were several Tyner descendants coming into Southern Indiana early 1800.s before statehood. I believe many Native descendants made their way into this area as it was abolitionist territory and frontier as well. Saj
May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #34069I too have some Darnell ancestors from the Grayson County area and a family story of our people being native. Finding much info on the Darnells is hard but they are from Ashe and Surrey county NC there is an excellent family history site here http://www.darnellfamily.org/genealogy/darnell/tree.html
May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #34070I am not related to any Darnells, but the ones I know are of English, Dutch, and Cherokee ancestry. They are around the north area of Kentucky. Sorry to say, I don’t know their genealogy.
May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #34073Hi , I have just found out that one of my early Native American ancestors was named Minisiah Sally White born in 1742 Dhe Married Alexander Jeffries in 1755. Can anyone help with more information?

May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #34074I have only been able to get as far as my Gr-great-grandmother on my Jeffers/Jeffries side of the family. Her name was Juda Jeffries, born 1803 in TN, and died December 20, 1881, in Scott Co., TN. Don’t know if that would be a connection to your Alexander.

May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #34075Thank you Anita,
according to my cousin Thornton Jeffries Members of Alexander’s family left Va for Ohio. Kentuckey and Tennesee.
May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #34078Hey there Sandra. I don’t believe we’ve met yet. My name is Bob Woolery and I live in Central MO. I have family in OK as well as many other places. I know of the Sturgill family who are OK Delaware’s. The Tyner’s I know are Shawnee’s, I know of some Butlers who are Cherokee but some are of other Tribes as well. We have many of these families out here in the NorthEastern OK area. You may want to put out some feelers and see if any of these families have the same lineage as your family.
I don’t know if you knew, but I wouldn’t use the term “Squaw” when refering to women, especially around here with our elder Ladies. That is a very derogatory, negative term. You may just as well call them a female dog in heat.

May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #35331Greetings, my fathers mother was elizabeth jane wright from letcher co Kentucky, her mother was Polly Wright, Polly was the daughter of Jason Holbrook and Americas Morgan.mother Americas Morgan was the daughter of Mary Emily Polly and James thomas Morgan, Mary Emily Polly was the daughter of Henry Polly and Martha Patsy Hall, Martha Patsy Hall was the daughter of Anthony Hall and Ruth Butler. Ruth Butler was the daughter of William Butler and Elizabeth Tiner, I have dates and locations avail. I would appreciate info if this ancestry reflects Cherokee or Choctaw lineage. I was told Cherokee and have some family pics, thank you
May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #35337Do you have dates for your family members listed here? I think mine is a different Elizabeth Jane Wright, that was married to Hiram Meeks. He was born somewhere around VA or KY in 1838, and Elizabeth was born in KY around 1839. Their children were:
George Baldwin Meeks, James C. Meeks, Sofronia Meeks, Mahala M. Meeks, Samuel Lathiat Meeks, William “Bill” Meeks, and my great grandmother Sarah Ann “Sally” Meeks Logan. I have approximate birth dates on them.
I have some genealogy on Elizabeth, and some history, but no genealogy on Hiram and several Civil War certificates of different Hiram Meeks, and a copy of a death certificate listing a Renshaw Meeks as father. I even joined a Meeks genealogy group, but they are as stumped as I am. Oh, and i have a 1900 Census from Pulaski County, KY. I also believe that Hiram may have been married before, but have no proof of that.

May 27, 2005 at 2:18 pm #35399I found a post by Swiwiti Woliwi that had some info on a James “Big Jim” Williams of Scott Co., VA. That’s where some of my Williams’ were in 1806 and I think this Big Jim is related. Family tradition says he was Cherokee – but don’t they all….ha ha. Swiwiti put her info on the Blackfoot section of Saponitown. I’d like contact with Swiwiti or anyone who is related to Big Jim Williams and Temperance Lane. Thanks! Clydene
