Wanda, thank you. I have been told that Richard Sr. married Elizabeth Rice. Since Richard left land to a David Rice in his will and David was not a son-in-law, maybe he was Elizabeth’s sister. I have Richard Sr.’s will if you would like it. You know a lot more about this family than I do. What do you think?

Wanda, In court records regarding the sons of John Sr. and whether they were Indian or not, the sons mention that their cousin Tom was also Indian. Do you know if they had any other cousins named Tom besides Richard Sr.’s son? I have these court statements somewhere. I’ll dig them out for you if you don’t have them.
I descend through Richard Sr.’s daughter Elizabeth who married Isaac Vernon. Then, through their son Joseph, wife unknown and their son John who married Sarah Sims. I can’t find her parents either or Joseph’s wife. You don’t have any Sims information, do you?

Kathleen, I did some research for you and emailed you what I found via the AFAOA and Gencircles.com As you can see, they listed Sarah with a different last name…. maybe she was married before she married John ?
I have to go shopping tonight, I can look elsewhere later. Hope this helps !

I know her name was Sarah Lemuel Sims, however, have you ever seen Lemuel as a surname? There was a man named Lemuel Sims living in the area. I don’t know if it was the right time frame though.

I went to kindredtrails, and they have Joseph Vernon’s familily listed as follows:

I know this prolly doesn’t help, but so far I have nothing on Sarah.
I did see several Lemuel’s listed on censuses.. none I could connect to her. There were 7 people/families with that last name listed on the 1810 census…. 2 in NC 1 in VA 2 in PA 1 in KY and 1 in NY
There are so many variations of that spelling….. I imagine it would be extremely hard to find thr right one, considering how many names were spelled different, or just spelled wrong.

🙂 i too decend from john austin sr, and a saponi indian, thru thier son john austin jr & mary mcbee, but i’ve heard thru others that his wife was a sasquannah indian (not spelled right) thru them thier son stephen austin and dorcas pinson, thru thier son sanders austin and nancy qualls (i also decend from nancy’s bro. john) thru thier son john austin and jane lamb, thru thier daughter judy austin who married thomas j. qualls, thru thier son felix young qualls and mary emaline wilson, thru thier daughter gertie lou qualls and exie chapman, to my mom bertha aline chapman & george wesley gollihar, but i need help getting ahold of the documents everyone else is using to prove thier lines can you be of any help on this line of families,

Shirley, I read your post and also would love to see the old Austin pictures. I am an Austin and descended from John Sr and Hannah through their son Joseph. It was declared in a Surry county court that all of the children of John Austin were either indian or meulegeon. My familiy has lived in Pittsylvania county Virginia near the Sandy River where John Austin’s plantation was located. I guess this makes us cousins of some form. The Austin men on my side all have dark or black hair. My grandfather Robert Calvin looked like the actor that played the lead role in bury me at wounded knee.
