Do you have all the census records for Mahala, or do you have access to them?

I do have that she died about 1882, she was 77. nothing that I can see to help me with James on it, yet.

The marriage bond below is the only mention of a Mahala Bass that I found in Caswell. Ironically, there was an Albert Piles listed with one of the Bass families above.

Have you, by any chance, tried searching for a marriage record for the May family that James was living with in 1850? Maybe, the Sarah listed could be a Bass too?
Could that will date of 1882 be a typo and possibly be 1852? If so, the age would “fit” with the Malaly listed above.

the Barnett Bass is not listed on the will at all.
just the females., and none of them were Bass. Chavis though.
how would i look for the marriage of William and the Sarah? I just thought that they were Quakers perhaps that he was living with. never thought of Sarah maybe being a Bass.

If Mahala was 77 in 1882, she would have been born about 1805, which is only 20 years before James was born – too young to be his grandmother. She might be another possiblility for his mother though. Who were the females listed in her will and maybe we can work it backwards?
Have you found Moses and Sely in any census records? I did see their marriage bond listing and it was in Stokes County. I am not that familiar with North Carolina, I need to find my map.

I was just looking around stokes co. also. 🙂
so anyway, just the one census have I found Mahala on, and just the marriage of Moses Bass and Sely Mitchel. that is all I have found. since I am sure that is not the correct way, well, about sure anyway, I don’t find her or him after that one census either.
so I would need to find out if there is a will of some sort for Moses and see if he left anything, but if his son, by chance is the James I look for, then James died in 1874, so he would not be listed if his father died after 1874. would that make sense of confuse you?
I did see one marriage for a William May and Sarah Phillips in Alamance Co. NC 11-1-1860. they were both from Virginia according to the 1850 census.

Thanks for the information. I asked because I thought that that was the cemetery that has a Willis buried in it. Willis is one of my names who intermarried with the Greens. The link does not reflect that though. I don’t remember who emailed me the information. However, it might be that I am not remembering correctly. The link reflects another of my names, Rhoades. Maybe I am mixed up.
Anyway, thanks. The Rhoads are a bit of a mystery to me.

I have searched for years for parents or/and siblings of James Bass born about 1825 NC, who married a Sarah Taborn(Taburn) 1851. they moved from NC to Ohio, Fairfield, Franklin Co.
1855 OH Franklin Co. Fairfield James Bass & Sarah adn
Celia born died 1936 in Oklahoma lived next to brother John.
1858 Moses born died Michigan 1907 age 49
1860 Samuel born died age of 13 1875, Lawrence Ks, of spinal meningitis.
1861 David James born–went by James after father died in Lawrence Ks, 1876
1865 John born –my husband’s grand father, died 1935 Oklahoma 5 years before husband born.
I have just found Moses’ grand children, and great grandchildren, but they do not know anything except what I have found. I did find that a daughter of Moses put in for Eastern Cherokee, but was rejected. Her mother was part of the Jeffries in NC. I have yet to find anything on David James, where he died, although I did find one of his children also living in Oklahoma next to her uncle John and Aunt Celia. her decendants know nothing either.

Your Jeffries Bass connection along with the Taburn/Taborn is what strikes me. I’m still mulling this over but there’s something there.

I have been on this forever, trying to find the ONE link, or piece of the puzzle that will put it all together.
I do have paper work to go with it so far. I am needing the birth of James Bass 1824-1825 in NC, and his parents, who I am still trying to prove or disprove as Moses Bass and Sely Mitchell. I also have photo’s of some.
I appericate all, who write to tell me.
I have looked in to the Nasemonds before, and even sent what I have up to James Bass born 1824-1825, but they want further back, and I don’t have that.
I just know what is written on records and the one Guion app jacket that I have from his grand daughter, and she knew he was full blood.
I have photo’s of Mitchell’s of Indiana, and also I have one of Amba Vaughn Bass, she was the daugher of Martha Jeffries Vaugh, who was Mortimer’s sister.
