Thanks, I have seen those before, I wish I could find a photo of Martha some where a long the way. maybe some time.
You mentioned that someone in the family applied for the Cherokee rolls and was rejected. Have you found this application? It would be in DC in the public archives. These applications are usually a treasure trove of genealogical information and oral family history.
yes, I have the application for Amba Vaughn Bass daughter of Martha Jeffries Vaughn and John Vaughn, and also of Amba’s daughter Louelva Bass, she tried on her great Grandfather, James Bass born 1825 in NC, he is my brick wall. they were rejected of course.

no, on the application, she just put that her grandfather James was a full blood from NC. that is probably all she knew as he had passed, as far as I can tell, about 1878, in Kansas.

Somewhere in the hearsay portion of my family lines lie a Bass or two (specifically twin girls). I haven’t gotten that far in tying down the research on that line; I’ve just filed it in my memory for the moment, but your post spurred this post because my branch of the Richardsons headed for Kansas around 1869 or so. I have been trying to find the leading group of Richardsons or other family types who went to Kansas. Do you know when your Basses went there? And where did they go? My Richardsons went to an area near Pomona, Franklin, KS, but assorted other Richardsons also lived in Douglas, Osage and Johnson Cos. Is there any possible connection between your KS emigres and mine? One of my Richardson tangents also applied for the rolls in OK and was rejected. (Again, this is hearsay from his descendants via a third source; I haven’t seen the actual document).

Hello there, always glad to hear from some one.
after leaving NC to Ohio, my Bass ended up in Douglas Co., Eudora, then Lawrence,Douglas Co., then Emporia, Lyon Co. all in Kansas.
Moses went to Cass Co. Michigan about 1875 or so, he left his siblings in Kansas. as his father James and Sarah had passed.
Samuel a sibling died also at 13. the three are buried in Douglas co., Kansas.
John traveled around and left Lawrence and then ended up in Oklahoma, dover/union area. Celia, his sister did also, later on.
David James, or James as he went by, I lost track of, but John and Celia, ended up by his daughter, their niece in Union/Dover., Kingfisher, Ok. where they all passed.
I wish I could find out what happened with David James.
and the rest of his children.
I have no parents yet for James Sr, do you have any names?

Isn’t Cass Co. MI the county where there are Indians from Alamance or Orange, NC documented to be Indian? I mean, Michigan used that category, while NC didn’t. Everybody in NC had to be categorized as either black or white, so the Michigan records were vauable in proving Indian blood. Checking into the connections your family made there made be revealing.
Yes, that is in Cass Co., but, it is not true about the white or Indian listing as Moses was listed as Mulato, so was his wife Amba Vaughn later Bass, as was her mother Martha Jeffries Vaughn, sister of Mortimer Jeffries. so, I have never found any one up there that I know for a fact was Indian, listed as such in Cass Co.
also, I did find some information on Moses Bass who married Sely Mitchell, and it did not pan out they way I was hoping that they were the father of James Bass, born 1825 in NC, who was the father of the Moses in our family.
