Native American genealogy research from the Piedmont of NC & VA
There is a story in my family about my g-g-great grandmother, Mary Ananias Vick (1818-1897), being a Blackfoot Indian. She was born in North Carolina. She married James Vann Johnston (1814-1884), a preacher, also born in North Carolina. They had five daughters and a son which were born in Pontotoc County, Mississippi. Since she was born in North Carolina, she could not be of the Blackfoot tribe in Montana and Canada.
Glad you found your way here, Mike.
Mike wrote me this week about this and I told him I wonder if Vick might be a variant of Buck. If it were, that would be pretty exciting. Buck is a Tutelo name at Six Nations, and found in VA families either known or suspected to be Saponi/Tutelo.
Hey Linda and readrs Iam still looking for that map with the SAponi locations in NY but IAm on the right track, also I found references to Creek and Cherokee in the Six Nations enumerations, aswell I did see the actual names of Tutelo people there aswell that is thier names were given in Tutleo about 12 or so people.
These anmes may have been coruppted into English! I’ll get back on it and do another posting if any one wants this info, all the bets Tom
