Ok, saw this post after I answered the other one. Do you have Susannah’s parents listed anywhere? Or any siblings of Susannah….or have any idea where her family originated?
February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #19132Ok, went out to the van and got the records that I have in regard to this line.
My line: My grandfather, Thea Wellington Whitefield, s/o John Henry Joseph Coggin Whitefield & Cornelia Jane O’Briant. JHJC Whitefield, s/o Thomas (NMN) Whitefield & Sallie Pearce. Cornelia Jane, d/o Alexander O’Briant & Emily Mary Whitefield. Confused yet??? Emily Mary Whitefield, d/o William Whitefield & Rozilla Moore. I think she is also the sibling to Thomas Whitefield. William Whitefield, s/o James Towler Whitefield & Susannah Minchew. James Towler, s/o William Whitefield & Mary Towler.
Rozilla Moore, d/o John Moore & Martha Hargis. I do not have any parents listed for Martha Hargis…only a possible, Capt. Thomas Hargis, born April 26, 1752 in Fairfax Co, VA. Married June 1777. John Moore’s father was Abraham Moore, and I do not have his mother. So you can see that these lines were mixing all along the way.
February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #19133Wow Becky!
I would have to check further than to see if the Sarah Hargis and Martha Hargis are related..but probably are. As to any parentage of Susannah Minchew, just checking around a little tells me it’s a mystery yet.
There was a Richard Minshew in Va, died in Nansemond co Va. with two sons, John b circa 1683 and Richard born circa 1700..wives of each MNU as well as the father. Each son has children born C1730’s. But Richard has a Richard who died Caswell co. So that just says they, or some of them were in the area. That’s all I saw between the LDS and gencircles. other than on genforum them showing that Susannah’s parents are not who some claim. Names given to John’s children on LDS were Aaron, Jacob, Nathan, william, Isaac, Abraham and John. And to
February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #19134Richard’s children..
John, Boaz, Richard, Happe, Dionysius and Maximillian…How many Minshew/Minchew’s were in Va in mid-1600’s?
At any rate, I’m confused enough by now for this day!!:)

February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #19156Hey Saj….confusing, isn’t it? We have a Richard Minchew as a witness to Susannah’s marriage..but, don’t think it’s her father. The Jesse Dickins that is listed as the other witness was a bondsman here in Person County…so that’s why others think they were the parents.
I know Bill found some more Minchews living here in the census…and that’s on another thread. But have just never made the connection from them to her. And you know, Minchew is not a name that folks recognize as NA…but, like I told you, my cousin states that she was. Not only from the history passed down, but, the artifacts found in the area where the homeplace is located….and it’s still there now. I figure she didn’t have a name until they needed one…and some how created that one.
I think the Hargis’s were related as well….will be interesting to say the least, to dig further and see. Keep having fun…I am, Becky
February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #19174Judah Anne Sophia Whitefield b. 9 Aug 1848, d/o Thomas and Sallie, marries JAMES T JONES b. 23 Jan 1841. This was James’ 2nd marriage. By his 1st wife he sires Virgie Jones b. 3 Dec 1868 who marries George Preston Allen b. 27 Jul 1868, s/o Bartlett Yancey Allen and Emily Ann Whitfield.
Who are James T Jones’ parents???? I need them for my boss’ mother’s Jones/Whitefield line. The most logical line would be Ambrose Jones but I haven’t put it together yet.
(Bill, feel free to chime in with any ideas on this Jones line 😉

Becky and I met 3 granddaughters of Bartlett Yancey Allen today. They are delightful ladies in their 90’s and still mobile and sharp as tacks. They called Flat River Gravefinders because the cemetery where B Y is has been disrupted by farming and they want it to stop. We plan to handle this latest project in a very public manner….. setting and dedicating the VA-issued CSA stone for Bartlett Yancey Allen 24th NC Troops with full media coverage, virtually daring the current owner of the surrounding land to disrupt it again. The 1/2 acre cemetery was set aside by petition to Superior court in 1912 and has subsequently been “lost” from current deeds. That is about to be fixed. We also have additional info on this line of Reuben Allen’s family. More as it unfolds……..
February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #24311As I read through this the genealogy amazes me but even more is the chill of finding these ladies or they finding you. In the 90’s and grand daughters of Bartlett Yancey Allen? Amazing. Ken and Becky you do such good work. Please keep us updated on this! Saj
February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #24329Sue, the ways the ancestors find to connect us with those in need have ceased to amaze Becky and me. These ladies saw the feature article that the local paper ran on Flat River Gravefinders last june but were spurred to act by the paper’s coverage of our latest project…… researching the identity of and locating the children of James William Hodge, A man from Person co, NC whose cremains were abandoned in a cemetery in Pine Bluff, Wyoming. We located a daughter who was overjoyed to discover the whereabouts of the lost cremains. (They had been left in a disabled van that disappeared before they could return for it.) She said it was the best Christmas present that she and her siblings could have received. That’s why we do what we do.
We promised the ancestors that we would help remember them for those yet unborn. They guide us and we willingly follow. All they want is to be remembered. In remembrance we honor them.
February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #31407hey Sue….. how does my Hannah Allen relate to Bartlett Yancey Allen briefly?
February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #31409Good Question Sue how does our Hannah Allen relate to this hamily?
I also have a Sarah Whitfield b. 1731 in NC Married to Daniel Herring b. 1729 in NC. Would this be of any kin to the Whitfields mentioned here? See the Herring family line.
OH, how the Family tree twist and turns while swaying in the times of our generations or the generations in an hour glass! HaHaHa!!!
February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #31415Ok…..
Hannah Allen is a daughter of William Allen born 1709 and Frances Grant. Ann is another daughter. Both married Howard men. William was married also to Mary Owen. These lines get very intermingled.
Bartlett Yancy Allen wasn’t born until June 18 1836. He is son of Reuben Malcolm “Mack” Allen and Barbarie Hawkins. Reuben son of William Lanier Allen and Ailse Yarborough. Wm. Lanier born 1788 CAswell co NC. Son of David Allen and Catherine Lanier. David son of Drury born Apr 6 1714. Drury and William Hunt born 1709 are brothers. Hannah is in will of William Hunt Allen as Hannah Howard. Saj

Wait a minute!! Did I not realize before that you descend from Hannah Allen and Henry Groves Howard? Don’t know if I caught that!…And Cherosage too! 🙂 🙂
That gives us all the common ancestor. Very exciting! Saj
February 10, 2006 at 3:40 pm #31423Well Sue….. I’m proud to call you cousin 😉
