Maybe I’m not in agreement with their decision but the US needs to honor the Cherokee Nations decisions. You right regarding the track record the US has about breaking treaties. If the US Gov’t wants to step in, then everyone should aware of such hypocracy that the US gov’t is acting in.
The whole thing is is mess – I think we have listened to lies about blood quantums for so long that we are starting to believe them
I pray something will be worked out.
The other problem is this confounded blood quantum. It has caused fighting and there’s those Dawes Rolls – there a people who are obviously no-doubt Cherokee’s who are left out or their tribe because their ancestors had successfully hid from the whites during that horrible trail of tears.
The blood quantum (designed by the whites) continues today of being the instrument of keeping the nations down.
I agree, the tribal requirements should not be dicatated by a document written by genocidists.
If the native nations want to become strong then we need to all work together whether weak-blood or strong-blood with unified vision. The vision can’t rest on waiting for gov’t handouts – that is our weakness.
Interesting that this came up, I just recently discovered an ancestor name Azuba Robbins from before 1850

the ‘s’ here is pronounced as ‘sh’, that’s Lakota spelling. Sometime the ‘s’ is just an ‘s’ and other times it’s an ‘sh’
The lakota word for chicken is kokoyahanla – the h being gutteral

We may may not be card carrying and we’re all extreme mixed-bloods but consider this. It is known that nazi germany patterned their internment camps after the reservation system. Whether its a reservation or section 8 housing, it is all a form of control that has been long established by the government wasicu’s. We don’t need a card to tell us who we are, just as those kept in camps didn’t need little yellow stars sewed on their clothing to know their identity. That which is inside us will continue to awaken us and draw all of us together.
So long as we have breath, we will continue to search and reconnect with our nations.
Also, I must say that I’m not against having land for native groups but if they are truly sovereign, then they must be totally independant – no BIA.
They would have there own government and they’re own laws of return, etc.
But, today as I see it, they are concentration camps.
Natives did not have blood quantums prior to the invasion, but for reasons of funding it exists.
According to most scientific studies, they say that we call have African Ancestry. Just that some are closer to the roots than others.
We should be proud of of those who came before us no matter what color they were.
You’re also right in that fact that NDN’s do come in many colors. Unfortunately so many label indians based on certain charicatures.
A whole continent of people, I so surprised at how many folks are shocked when I tell them that there so many NDN languages – they think we all stand around and say ‘hau’ from coast to coast! Ackh! So then I reason with them – “look how many language Europe has – do you think the rest of world is any different?”
I’ve noticed that Asians have dark and light skinned people as well – and China is approximately close to the mainland US in size. Maybe a little larger
