Linda,
Have you made any plans for next year’s annual get together yet? I’m getting ready to make out my 2007 vacation schedule for work in the next couple of weeks and wondered if you had any dates yet.
Jim
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #24172No, I haven’t. The cabins at Occoneeche State Park will be ready by next summer. They are pretty spectacular. Beautiful A frame lodges right on the lake. I should find out how much they are, if we got enough people to sign up it might be quite reasonable.
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #24174Linda,
I can schedule vacation about any time. But they like for us to have a general plan submitted by Jan 15. The cabins sound very nice. We always get a cabin in Gatlinburg.

December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #24437June was always the time for the get together. Linda and I can check out the cabins with park, but need to know if anyone else is planning on attending to get an idea?
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #24494Hey Linda
Was wondering what the completion date was on the cabins…and if you have any idea which weekend you want to hold the get together? Don’t need too much notification at work, but, would like to work it around the pow wow schedule, which I pulled from thundertrails.com.
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #24497We took a hike and looked at the cabins and lodges. There’s a big lodge that will sleep 16 people that would cost $636 for a weekend, overlooking the main channel of Kerr lake, with Occoneechee Island submerged directly underneath, with a big deck and a stone fireplace. If we got 16 people it would be only around $39 per person. But somebody has to reserve it with the $636 up front. I’ve got pictures on my camera I’ll try and get off and up here. It’s really gorgeous. I saw it and thought we could have a great get together there at the lodge, then Saturday night we can all go to the point at North Bend Park and do Tutelo dances in the moonlight. Sunday afternoon after we’ve checked out of there we can caravan over to Fort Christanna and pay our respects there.
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #24498Linda, I didn’t catch if you all have set an actual date for the event. Rachel and I would like to know and possibly make plans to attend. Ed
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #24499No, we haven’t set a date. I think last year we did it the last weekend in June. It depends on who can come and what dates they can do.
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #24505Hey Linda…would that be June 29, 30, and 31st? There are no pow wows that I know of that weekend, so tentatively that would work for us. Maybe we could each send you something if that’s a date we can decide on to use?
Oh, what type of sleeping quarters do they have? Would we need sleeping bags or do they have some type of beds there?
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #24512It’s fairly luxuriously laid out. There are two bedrooms with double beds, then four bedrooms, the ones I could look into had two bunk beds in each (sleepin 4 per room). I could only peak through the windows, but likely there are two bathrooms. There’s a large fully stocked kitchen open to a great room with vaulted ceiling and the stone fireplace. There’s a long breakfast bar and a big dining room table, so a lot of seating for meals. Outside there are decks along the front and back with rocking chairs.
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #24534The lodging sounds great 🙂 I am from Clarksville, VA so I may attend the Annual Gathering this year and if there is not enough room, I can just stay at my Daddy’s house.

I was told that there is a Pow-wow in May of 2007 around the 12th. Is this correct? Where exactly, the cost, are accomodations/food available, entrance fee into the park or wherever it is being held. I learned from Forest that there is one being held on the 8-9 of June. I am interested in the one in May, but need the exact dates and the events being held.also the times and how many days the pow-wow is being held. Is the gathering the same as the pow-wow? Have been trying to get exact information for a while. Only been able to get bits and pieces so far. I hope you will getme on the right track on this one. Thanks~~Sophronia

There is a pow wow in May at Clarksville, VA. If you check the events threads, I think Forest has posted it there. Entrance fees for pow wows are usually by donation or just a few dollars. No, the gathering is not the same as the pow wow. The gathering is just a time for all of the forum folks to get together and share ideas, food, and good times (hopefully, it won’t be raining). Bill, I promise not to bring you brownies this time…LOL.

December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #26000Bringing this back to the forefront….Linda, have you decided on the last weekend in June or some other time? We would be able to spend the day at least, my daughter is coming in from WY, so doubt we would spend the night. Please give us an update. Thanks…Becky
