Count me in. At least 2 of us would like to join y’all. Could be more.
I noticed there are supposed to be a couple of picnic shelters at the state park. Think the small one is $50. Any interest in that, or shall we wander from tent to tent?
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #27411Hi Y’all,
I am renting cabin #11 (ooo, a lucky number for me) at Occaneechee State Park that weekend. You guys are welcome to stop by to get out of the heat/rain, or just visit.
FYI to anyone else who may be interested: As of yesterday, there were still 3 vacant cabins. There’s just a two-day minimum on rental, and they have 2 bedrooms.
Hope to see some of you there!

December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #27434Hi there, Bee. Thanks for the information and your cabin whereabouts. We wil be coming down to South Hill/Bracey for the Homecoming and I do hope to get over to Occaneechee Park to do some visiting with you all for the annual get-to-gether. I will be with someone and not driving myself so we will have to coordinate our comings and goings. Hope to see/meet you and others. Looking forward to it. Sophronia
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #27471Hi All
We will be staying in Clarksville at the B&B on Friday and Saturday night. We can drive out to the park and visit with folks. This will probably be about the only chance to “vacation” this year because of my job.

December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #27499Hey, Rick. I hear ya and relate to ya. Being “potentially Cherokee”, I’ve been learning some of the language and syllabary, too. It would be cool to practice with someone who learned from someone who knows. I heard about an immersion sort of class out at Qualla. That would be something.

Hey Becky, I with my sister and some family will be in South Hill and hope to get to the park and meet you and others. Hope it works out that way. I am not driving myself, so we’ll see how it
goes. Hoping to see you, Sophronia
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #27684Hey, only a few more days!
Question/plea: Does anyone who is attending the get-together happen to possess any of the Haithcock books? If so, would you mind bringing it along? I just want to see what they’re like. Some of my peeps are mentioned in one of them.
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #27685I just wanted to know if we should all bring something to eat and/or drink?

We have one of Richard’s books and will be glad to bring it with us. If anyone has any specific requests for genealogy/books, please post it so we can make sure to bring anything anyone is interested in reading. Does anyone have a laptop that I can play a CD with pictures on it? If so, I will make a CD with past Saponitown gatherings and pow wow pics.
As far as food, we will be glad to contribute to a meal…..we will be coming into Clarksville Friday night. Planning to shoot over on Saturday (unless there’s something going on on Friday night) and Sunday. Linda, what do you have planned so far?

December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #27700Thanks, Becky! I can bring a few books, as well. I have Pat Spurlock Elder’s book about Melungeons, a couple Cherokee books, and the older version of “History of Patrick County, VA.”
Will see if Sandy can bring her laptop. And thanks for reminding me– we took quite a few pictures at the Cheroenhaka pow-wow. I’ll put them on CD/DVD.
Ochoa is coming, too. The three of us (so far) are heading to the state park Friday noon/afternoon. Those cabins sound pretty large, so if anybody needs to, you’re welcome to crash with us.
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #27712Ok, that sounds great about the laptop. I can bring some CDs of past pow wows and the gathering a few years ago. We were trying to decide what time to leave for Clarksville….
December 23, 2006 at 3:57 pm #27767We will be staying at Bayview B&B in Clarksville. Hoping to arrive before dark on Friday night. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Saturday….Linda, are we picnicking or cooking out? Thought I would fix some goodies before we leave tomorrow…..let us know.

We had a death in the family on Thurs. so I don’t know what the mmediate plans are, at this time. Hopefully we will meet with you all somewhere before we head back home to NJ on Sunday around noon. Will check with Felicia to see exactly what she has planned for Home-coming and how it fits into the Get-to-gether. Till then~~~Sophronia
