I think we will find my Nancy to be an aunt of this Ambrose DAY… and they will connect to Ambrose Jones and my Lucy Jones
July 10, 2005 at 2:25 am #15541Please make note that the info that I just posted from worldconnect is rather jumbled as you can see from the overlapping birthdates of children. What has been done was combining William Jr and Sr….. search Tapp on this forum for more on the Tapp connections to this “group” from Va.
July 10, 2005 at 2:25 am #15542I have been watching this thread. I have an Elizabeth LUNSFORD that married Bradley COLLINS in Clay Co. Kentucky. Both were origionally from families in North Carolina.
Also …….I have an Elizabeth JONES I don’t know much about but she married into my WILLIAMS and SPENCER lines.
On my mother’s side I have the surname DAY who married into the COTTRILL line.
I read this thread and think to myself that somehow I have to fit in here somewhere.
Oh, my the way Bill, David Collins went to Kentucky and settled along with about 45 other Collins families. He had sons Hiram, and Abraham who ( according to Clay Co court records) witnessed a murder and was called to court to testify along with a cousin , Bradley Collins. ( Bradley is from my Meredith line)This court record is a little sketchie….but all I need to satisfy to my satisfaction that somehow David and Meredith Collins were related. That and the record of the McDaniel Company that list David, Meredith, George, and Lewis Collins joining this militia in the same county and on the same day)

I think I’ve accounted for all the Jones households that were in this area of Person Co in 1840 and all were still alive in 1850, so I’ll spread the search out to other areas of 1840 Person Co. to try to identify Lucy’s father.
Bill
p.s.
The “J.E. Jones” (“James” on 1870 Collin Co., Tex Census) who m’d Nancy “Nannie” Bumpass and moved to Texas per p.143 in your Bumpass family book, was James E., son of William Jones, b.abt.1822 NC and Martha, b.abt. 1824 NC, and lived in Woodsdale Twp in 1860 to 1880. James E.’s siblings:
Joannah, b.1847
John R (B?), 1849
Nancy, b. 1852
Elizabeth, b. 1844
William, b.1846
curiously, I haven’t found them in 1850 Person Co.
In 1860, they lived 4 houses away from Griffin & Cassy Jones and next door to another William Jones family.
Griffin Jones, b.abt. 1793 Va, and Cassandra DAY, b.abt. 1791, NC, m’d 11 Sept 1817 Person Co., NC. Cassandra (Day) Jones, d. 8 June 1873, “buried in Jones Family Cemetery, Roxboro.”
[Caution: William’s parents may be Moses (b.1799) and Joannah (b.1800) Jones with Griffin being William’s uncle.]
Griffin Jones’s parents look like Ambrose Jones (son of Robt,b. 1690 Va), b. 1716 Va, d. 1792ish Granville Co., NC, and Catherine COLLINS but I’m still waltzing this back.
July 10, 2005 at 2:25 am #15561William H Newton was b. 1814 (in Va) d. 1856. married on Jan 22, 1835 in Person co, NC to Mary Jane Mann, d/o Thomas Mann and Margaret Crossett.
