Are you related to any Ross’s in Pennsylvania? Thast where mine come from.
Nannanae;36348 wrote: well I know my family farely well . but not everyones nicknames or what happens to them during the TOT and civil war years. everybody got lost or dead. 🙁
anyway I will let you know if I find any Susans or
I don’t have all the middle names of mine.
but so far from the top of my head . if you need any more info
Nancy ross born 1835 or so ….don’t know if this is Lizzy’s daughter or a step daughter.
am sure these are hers
I got a katie/catherine ross , may not be a ross (may be full bloods Okiluna Furgeson’s daughter, said to be husband of Lizzy just before the TOT ), born around 1837/38? ( middle name unknown) married ‘White’ ( she had daughter ‘jane white ‘ lost by next census) seen just after civil war seen on census IN )and married Jw Dameron last seen in AR ( logan co?)
Eliza anne born 1848 she is a twin ? never find her after civil war. lost around KY or maybe MO or maybe north texas. red river area.
brothers
1 John (not a ross )( father is probably George Lavander) may have had a baby name of ‘sally’ as in ( sallycookiewalah) or Elzia spelled Ailsey on cherokee pre removal commodities list one is a daughter and one is a son I think. as one sally and one ailsey is on the commodities list with lizzy.
but your guess is as good as mine as to which is the boy and which is the girl).
john dies in Jackson CO AR. has one son maybe two sons different mothers with the named “george”. and daughter Molly is on last census in Jackson co Ar. with son Floyd and daughter ?edna? Wade.
2 James Ross ( middle name unknown )born OH. (???? possibility he dies in the civil war .. like at pea ridge maybe. but either way I lose track of him after civil war?) he is not moving around with his mother or brothers.
3 Noble L Ross dies after last census 1890?/ is living near Katie Dameron and Elizabeth jane in logan? co ar? married a mary (camel/ campbell?)
4 Robert ( f?) a twin born about 1848, boone co KY or around jackson? co OH. signed both sides in the civil war . one time with the cherokee ( mounted rifles?). I know the first time he is too young told to go home(maybe after his brother died? or he is wounded )2- 3 years later signed with IN for the north. was wounded I think at time maybe, but he had a head wound and maleria or TB? according to civil war documents.
has sons with first wife Angeline
1 Bertie ( robert st clair) he has sons Bertie and Elzia also .
2Elzia ?( dies in war hospital in NY state )( I don’t know why they are all in NY state) Elzy sp?
3 Annie ( angeline ) ?
4 Daisy may (may mean like little sister? or sissy?)
and
and 2 wife Jemima Collins daughter of Nancy Zerilda Hopkins and David Collins 1850.
1Katie (?)
2Annie ( ?)
3Clarence L(? lawrence?) is listed on the us guberment/ saponi indian/collins documents.
4Vivian Flora ( my great grandma who told me the stories)
5Suda( lee/lynn) ( means sixth daughter?)
. as Far as Jordon Ross being a “Golden” Ross maybe the cherokee may have called everyone with ‘blond hair’ ” golden”. so who knows if it means anything!
Clarence L Ross and son

if you need any other info and if i can help, just scream! because my ross are every where and get lost just about everywhere too 😛
. it just can’t get anymore confusing can it ?
August 27, 2009 at 4:09 pm #35926I don’t know of any in PA. Roberts kids … Bertie and Elzia (a male name) and Elzia died in a solders home there. his sisters married and went to NY also I think I want to say Dun or Dunbough(sp?) was one husband maybe . I am not sure where ( my papers are buried ) in NY were they were off the top of my head .
and Robert1 son Robert2/Bertie (st clair ?)moved back to Indiana and had sons Robert3/bertie and Elzia also I think .. I don’t know why they went to NY in the first place. but some came back to IN/portsmouth,IN? .. some of them are in AR 1880’s 1890. but like I said I lost track of some of them during the civil war years ,I lost track of James (M? morton? or morrison?, monroe ???I think something like that ) Ross
born 1839ish , Eliza ( roberts twin sister) born about 1845(?)ky/oh? they are both children of Elizabeth jane shoeboots are in the census before the civil war , and missing after it. jane white in the census 1870 / but missing after that.
Robert (F), JOHN (?M?) born 1834ish pre TOT ( father probably George Lavender he is not a ross but goes by the sirname Ross) and NOble L 1842/3 is in AR , Elizabeth jane bn.1807-1809 and Katie bn 1837ish pre TOT , these is in AR 1880 on , 1870 census these are in Switzerland co IN. from there some of roberts kids and jemina collins oldest DAUGHTER Emma, I think, her oldest IS not a ross , but went by ross his family is mostly in Jackson CO AR. … that daughter or one of his daughters also married the Dun or dunbaugh and one married a high ranked officer stationed in NY I think. maybe that is why they all went to NY then..
some of them went to AR?
but before the civil war they are in Boone CO KY1850cenus
and 1860 ceus in Dearborn CO IN ? robert signs for the second time with the civil war there .
and
before that in( jackson?) CO OHIO 1840 CENSUS just after the TOT where she met Jordon ross when Shoeboots sister ( probably his twin sister) died on Jordons Ross property. when the Ridge party moved through ohio TO PA to the moravian mission to get household goods to build houses in indian territory.. or something like that . they are “the cherokee who floated down the ohio river with their household goods”
where are the lost ones at , I have no idea, there really lost . I mean I am looking for a Eliza Jane/ OR ANNE/SUSANNE and a James(? maybe M) Ross. KATIE NAMES ONE OF HER DAUGHTERs FROM JW DAMERON, SUSAN DAMERON.
not like there is a shortage of any of those names !!.. someone will have to find them as a match to their ancestors census I guess.
yes I found Noble Ross easy , but James, eliza jane/anne/susanne , and jane white , they are just lost..
unless you know the tales I was told I don’t know how to say which Ross are related to whom/ which chief of the cherokees.
I was just lucky to sort mine from
“head chief john ross” info that completely dominates the cherokee/indian /chief / head chief
‘ Ross’ conversations.:D
but I am thinking we lost James at pea ridge at the start of the civil war and why robert was “told to go home” after he lost his brother or was wounded also , the story goes something like that . about “robert joining first the south then the north but was too young and sent home” or something happened and he was sent home ” that part I remember clearly .. yes his civil war papers show he was wounded at sometime too when at war . but I can’t yet prove any of it yet , or find others with that story.
the oldest one called John is probably the John Ross with Quantrils raiders .. but I can’t prove that either! except they lived not far from the boone family in ky before the civil war.
and that John ross with the raiders first son with the Boone related wife, who left him in MO at the start of the war .. that son is named George and my John’s who’s father is George Lavender and is not really fathered by a Ross .. next wife’s first son is also named George, both sons born different years .
but yes my ross sure moved a lot . see why I said mine were everywhere and everywhere along that river I lost a few. it was very turbulent times to say the least, so many people just died .

August 27, 2009 at 4:09 pm #35928Kammama and Nannanae, Thank you for the information.
I am still searching for the two Susan Ross in my family line. I keep finding Susan Rosses
in the correct time period, but there is always one or two generations missing in being
able to tell which is the correct Susan Ross.
Just today I found a web site with some more information. The address is:
http://www-personal.umich.edu/~cgaunt/etc/comp317.txt
It has some information on the William Ross in Wythe County that I have been looking
for. There are Ann Ross and Jane Ross also mentioned in this info.
I don’t know if my Ross line is connected to PA or not. So far I have a deep pile of
research that has Rosses of interest in SW Va, NC, Oh, In, Pa, and NE. I also know that
some of the Rosses were in MO, but have been unable to find any of them and I know
for sure they were there. Also there were Pierces in the family line that were in MO
and they are nowhere to be found.

.
also another real important element of my line of ross’s is the reasons I had forgot everything about these stories for years.
first Eliza jane was my hero, you know when little .. she was so tough.
you see in one story Jordon ross ” saves” Eliza jane from the TOTand gives land to bury Shoeboots sister ,so he is a hero . and in the next story when I was a bit older grandma said she killed Jordon in self defense.
she is acquitted of all charges. I guess when I was a kid it was to much for me to handle and I blocked it all out for years . it went deep and far far away .
I spent three days crying when bubbled up to the top. it sure effected me.
anyway the John Ross Of Quantrils raiders/ they stayed alot in red river tx for anyone needing to check for more indian ross were at alot of the raiders were part bloods ..
now that john ross’s boone related wife’s family or those thinking that their John Ross was that John Ross also. had the same kind of story about their Ross. only they said” they thought their john killed the boone wife”, and they couldn’t figure out why she was still alive after he was gone, or something like that . so their story was close enough to our reality , that either it is the same john or they got a bunch of my relations that think they are related to that John Ross but it is really my john ross they are related too . but their john ross who is completely missing from them after the civil war, they think he is dead. because that is what the boone wife said. she called herself a ‘widow’ after the civil war !
as best I can remember …is that my great grandma’s(who was telling the stories ) dad ,thus my gg grandfather Robert’s 1/2 brother John’s and Robert’s own mother (elizabeth jane shoeboots) went by “Jane ” killed John’s step dad and he was Robert’s dad with a rolling pin in self defense. Jordon was drunk and started beating her. maybe she lost a baby then too or one time she did .
so they had some connections to MO and TX and IT as they are listed on the drennen rolls too .
also the Q. Raiders were protecting southern parts of IT/north texas part of the time and working with Watie in KY also sometime and wherever they were too . in and out of KS and they were all over everyplace during the civil war. so reading about Q.raiders might give some locations to look at.. that just gives more things to research to where these people had connections of some kind. and all kinds of more places I could have lost my James or Eliza anne.
maybe that helps someone figure out something.

well I don’t think we are .. but I don’t know anything about Jordons Ross family . he was born 1795ish IN VA, I think. maybe you can find them on the census from my clues.
someone thought his dad was maybe Alexander ross . a general or officer and that is how Jordon got to be rich or have lots of land. well I guess he was rich or well off compared to (Elizabeth)Jane anyway.
August 27, 2009 at 4:09 pm #35932I found the John Ross that was chief of the Cherokee in records of Plattsmouth, Cass Co.,
Ne. It was there that he was captured and taken to Washington DC. At the time he
was running a hotel there. The Nebraska Historical Society in Lincoln has the original
hotel register with his name on it. At the time he was living with a Susan J. Ross and
several children. I could not find any information indicating whether this John and
Susan Ross were married or were brother and sister. I did find information that
indicated at a later date Susan married (don’t remember the husbands name) and
moved to Iowa. From a book about Cass Co. it said that John Ross was very well
thought in that community.
August 27, 2009 at 4:09 pm #36138The Susan Ross in Plattsmouth, Nebraska census was not the Susan Ross I was
looking for. She was born in Ohio. So she has been eliminated from possibilities.
There is a possibility for Susan Pierce. I found a Susan Pierce in the 1870 Halifax
County, Va. census. She was 55 years old. Living in her household was a Susan
Pierce age 30. Living next door was the older Susan’s son, Napoleon Pierce. He
was 35 years old. Living with Napoleon was David Ross 76 and Betsey 75.
Susan, Susan, and Napoleon were listed as white. David and Betsey were listed
as black.
I have not been able to find the two Susans and Napoleon in any of the other
census. Have not found David and Betsey in any of the other census but am
assuming that in the 1860 census they were probably slaves and therefore not
I have not been able to find death records for any of them.
listed.
Now I’m just thinking out loud. Could it be that David and Betsey Ross have
the last name of Ross because that was their owners surname? Since Susan
Pierce was listed as a widow could her maiden name be Ross? If her maiden
name was Ross then it is possible that she was either related to David and
Betsey’s owner or to David and Betsey.
