September 29-30
Town Creek Heritage Festival.
Annual event with “Pow Wow” atmosphere including singing, dancing, drumming, craft and food vendors. Fee charged. $3, adults. 12 and under free.12-4:30 p.m. both days.
We will try to make our way to this one since we have been invited several times. Anyone else??

Hey Becky.
We are hoping to go for at least a little while, since it’s not that far from us. “Beans” has to work the fair this weekend, though. :~(
I know Burke and Brenda are planning on camping down there. Mike and Jeannie are going…and I think Elton. Carlos is planning on going….he mentioned something about a gathering in Gibsonville….have you heard anything about that? He will have more information this weekend. Looking forward to seeing y’all…sorry about Beans.

I am glad to know that so many are going to try and be there . I am looking foward to meeting every/one and sharing in all the activities . And I know that the feeling and moving of the spirit’s will be there . I have alway’s felt the present’s of some of our Ancestor’s in the mist of all who have attended this PowPow it is an Awesome experiance sorry if mis-spelled . But I know all know what I am saying . See you there…..

No, don’t know anything about Gibsonville.
Guess I should ask this. Will there be plenty of dancing on Sunday, and can anybody join in, or do we need a card?
I don’t actually know , but have dance some at this one without a card . A lot times the MC who is John “Blackfeather” Jefferies invites every/one who wants to to join in several dances . I know that I have always had great times at this POW POW . See all of you there!!!!!!!!!!!!!

John requires that you have on regalia when you dance in the circle unless it’s a public dance. Bee, you have the shirt, skirt, shawl, fan….all you would probably need would be mocs of some type, and it would be good if you could make sure your ankles are covered unless the skirt is really long…but, you can always ask Mike, Jeannie, John, or the arena director, if you aren’t sure. You should be able to join in the intertribals with the regalia you have.
Mike and Jeannie don’t usually dance anywhere that requires a card, so you can use that as your guide. They both have cards, but, it’s the principle of the thing.
Rick, I guess you will have to find us….you’ve seen my regalia…Ken dresses in men’s traditional with a hat that has a fox face and fox tail on it. We can usually be found hanging out with Mike(Thunderdancer) and Jeannie (Enahdah)…and of course, Bee and her partners in crime…LOL. We have not decided about spending the night down there…we may drive down on Sunday, depending on the feelings on Saturday. It’s about a 2.5 hr. drive from where we live. Looking forward to seeing everyone…..and may be Ken will bring his anniversary gift and play for everyone…..
I need to know who will be there on Sat. So I will know if I have to attend both day’s . Cause of being’s how I want to meet all of you that are going to be there

Sounds awesome. Beans is going to only work one shift Sunday, so we will be there part of the day. We hope to get Little Sister over here before Sunday so we can just shoot down there after coffee.
Haven’t quite given up on Saturday, but it is not looking too likely.

Thanks, Becky! Gulp. That is what I want to do. Have mercy, I have been sewing a little bit. I stink at it, but wanted to try to make things match a bit better. I have way more ideas than skill!
Rick, we are planning on being there Saturday. Sunday is still up in the air…depending on finances and all.
Bee, don’t rush into anything if you aren’t ready. Remember it took us a while to get our act together. I don’t sew well at all, either, but things came to me bit by bit. And for those that don’t sew….shop! He he he…Seriously, Ken has done a pretty good job with the deerhides he has bought…using sinew or thread and sewing it like the old timers would have. And taking some instructions from good friends…check out the Goodwill stores…you never know what you might find. Remember…regalia evolves…what you start with may not be what you want to wear next year. I hope to be working on a new skirt over the winter…and will have to ask someone to help me…but, at least I have a goal. If it’s right, it will all come together.

Oddly enough, I think I do better with leather than with cloth.
Had an idea and some of the fabric for a skirt, but it seems like a winter project to me, too. Well, then one literally was placed in my lap. I would like to honor that by wearing it at least one time this year. It’s a nifty, roomy design that I may use as a guide later.
I love thrift stores, too!
Think I will enjoy watching things evolve. I have enjoyed watching you guys add things & hearing the stories behind them. I’d love to use more family stuff, but there’s not much. Think I’ll ask my parents if they have any hand-me-downs to swap next time I’m up there. I’ve got some ideas for ways to put family in, without hand-me-downs, but they will not be too quick to happen.

Thanks…it has been a long time coming, that’s for sure. It was amazing to me that once my mom saw what I was using, then she added so many more items to my shawl. She even gave me just about all the beads she had…which will be taken apart and made into something more native looking. There are many ways of incorporating family into regalia…my son wants to add a patch for fallen firefighters to my shawl…and I think that’s a real honor. He is a firefighter, and has been since he was 18. Ken is a former firefighter as well….long before they had PPE. And I had been a part of our local fire dept. as support for ten years. So the patch will be added for their remembrance.
And you are quite welcome….we’re just one big happy family, eh?
Dancing at the mound was very special….. words fail me. A Five Star powwow for sure, just based on location….. dancing where our people have danced for a thousand years….. and it was so much more.
