NC School Science & Math Native American Pow Wow

This is a traditional powwow with no contests, but lots of intertribal dancing. First Grand Entry is at 1:00. We dance until 5:00. Break for supper from 5:00 to 7:00. Directions From Business 85 take Exit 4 South on Hwy 56 (Asheville Hwy). Go 2.3 miles to Chapel St. Turn right to Howard St. Turn right to the Fairgrounds at 575 Fairgrounds Road.

Spruce Pine Pow Wow
Fifth annual educational pow wow. Lots of demonstrators. 20 craft vendors. Hours: Friday and Saturday 9-9, Sunday 9-5. Admission: $5.00 for Adults $2.00 for Children. Directions: From Asheville take I-26 North to Exit 9. Take US19E North 30 miles to Spruce Pine. Turn right on Hwy 226 South. Go approximately 2 1/2 miles to 12513 South Hwy 226. Pow wow will be behind Music Jewelry and Loan. From the East, take I-40 to Exit 85 and follow Hwy 226 North to Spruce Pine. When you cross under the Blue Ridge Parkway it is about 2 1/2 miles to the pow wow.

Ft. hamby Pow Wow
Fourth annual educational pow wow in cooperation with the W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir. Lots of demonstrators. 20 craft vendors. Childrens activities all day.
Hours: Friday and Saturday 9-9, Sunday 9-5. Park opens at 8, pow wow at 9. Admission to the Park is $1.00 and the Pow Wow is $5.00 for Adults and $2.00 for Children. Friday is Kids Day and Children are free with the schools.

Frisco Native American Museum & Natural History Center presents
Dancing Moccasins,
A Celebration of Native American Cultures – Past and Present.
In addition to the Powwow, the weekend will include more than 50 exciting programs and activities appropriate for all ages—from toddlers to centenarians.
The purpose of the festival will be to provide such powerful and inviting sensory experiences that learning almost takes place by “osmosis”. From the sounds of native drums and singing, to the smell of fry bread and the tangy taste of buffalo chili, to the images of intricate crafts and the delights of molding clay, shaping stone, stringing beads, or weaving baskets, participants will not observe or “hear about” Native American culture—they will experience it up close and personal!

Come and enjoy this wonderful native experience as tribes from all over the Mid-Atlantic region and elsewhere gather on ancestral grounds to celebrate and share our cultures on the west side of Roanoke Island along the tranquil waters of the Croatoan Sound. This event will feature a gathering of American Indian tribes from across the nation dressed in tribal regalia, traditional and contemporary American Indian music, dance, visual arts, storytelling, back wood survival demos, crafts, and health screenings while learning about various dances and the regalia worn. All veterans and servicemen/women will be honored. All native drummers, dancers, traders, and food vendors are welcome.

Grounds open May 29-30 from 10AM to 6 PM. Grand entry is 12 noon on Saturday and 1 PM on Sunday. American Indian arts, drumming and dancing, tribal displays and cultural demonstrations, and plenty of food and drink. Bring your lawn chairs and blankets.

Virginia’s only powwow on an Indian reservation. Held on the Mattaponi Indian Reservation in King William County, the powwow features American Indian dancing, drumming, food, arts and crafts. This event’s mission is to promote America’s indigenous peoples’ music, song, dance, art, and unity. Event activities include drumming, singing, dancing, native food, guest performers, educators, traditional and contemporary arts and crafts, demonstrations, veterans ceremony, shopping, face painting, raffles, auctions and more. Special performances by Bill Crouse and the Allegheny River Indian Dancers. Free admission to dancers dressed in regalia. Dancers must register for meal ticket and luck of the draw. Registration is free.
Friday- 5 PM -10 PM. Grand entry 7 PM
Saturday- 10 AM – 10 PM. Grand entry 11 AM and 7 PM
