Well, the New Bern pow wow was certainly worth the drive. We had a beautiful day gathering with family and friends….good drumming and dancing. It was good to see Ed Yancey and his wife there, hope to see them again in Manteo. There were about 6 vendors and Mills on Wheels doing the food. And to top off the whole day we were visited three times by very special feathered friends….the eagles. Yep, if they do this one again next year…we plan to go and make a weekend of it visiting all there is to see in New Bern, NC’s second oldest town.
January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35059OBSN Pow wow – Mebane, NC
This is more of a report on this pow wow since I didn’t get the info up before the pow wow. It was held in Mebane this past weekend (6/11-6/12) out on their tribal grounds on Dailey’s Store Rd. There were several food vendors, about a dozen craft vendors. The best part is there were 4 drums…and lots of smiles and laughter….there was a good feeling at this pow wow this year. Keith Colston was emcee. And although it rained us out on Saturday afternoon, we all had felt much spirit up until that point and no one was ready to leave so we hung out under the canopy and had a good time. Thank you, Creator, for all you have done to make this a good powwow once again…..

January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35129The Strong Sun Festival was fantastic! We really had a good time with our family and friends. Lots of vendors to buy all sorts of stuff….good food….actual shade in the park…easy access. Put this one on the calendar for next year…..Super 8 motel was a really nice place to stay..and reasonably priced. It’s on to Bland for Green Corn Festival this weekend.

October 9, 2010
This is a one day pow wow. You can download the flyer or view the details at mcdcpeedeeindiantrib.tripod.com. The chief cooked dinner for us this past weekend at the Strong Sun Festival…..nice people…good porkchops.
January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35257Green Corn Festival was awesome this year….doesn’t matter that it was hot, we all had a good time. And you might check out youtube for Ken Watson and how he got the dancers moving outside of the circle. There was good camping for the dancers…and a wonderful arena director that saw to our every need. There were lots of vendors with so many items. And there was plenty of food vendors to suit every taste. If you get time, please visit the village…it’s a good feeling place to go.
January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35258We really enjoyed the small gathering at Mountain Eagle. See my replies to that on that thread. It’s onto Manteo this weekend. Hoping that the weather will be reasonable and we can camp. Have talked to several more people that want to join us, so hoping it will be even bigger and better than it has been.
NOTE: The dates have changed in that there is nothing posted for Friday night. The pow wow will run on Saturday and Sunday, with a concert on Saturday night at 7 p.m. Hope some of you can make it to the Manteo airport to enjoy this weekend.
January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35313Some of the songs/dances Bill Crouse does are Tutelo, songs that were kept alive at Six Nations after adopting the Tutelo in. If anybody goes and can videotape his performance, I’d be very interested in seeing it. Where is the City of King?
January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35323Sis; I am thinking that I and my family will be able to make it. I was thinking this event was going to be the weekend of the 25. If this is right I the 18th instead of 25. On the 25th I will be in Myrtle Beach for a wedding. My god-daughter is getting married. So like I said if this is on the weekend of 18th I will see you at town Creek. I finally got my degree in Electrical/ Electronics this past May. I was even inducted into the Who’s Who amoung Students in Universities and Colleges. This is a Great Honor here in the USA. There one Student from every State in all 50 States that are selected. The Creator Blessed Me as He always have. Happy Trails to you and Brother Ken. Hopfully see you at Town Creek
January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35328Linda: King is near Winston Salem. Bill Crouse didn’t make it this time. The dancers were there and they are always a lot of fun and bring lots of interesting dancing to the pow wow. It was good to see Richard Haithcock at this pow wow, too. I think that’s at least three in this area for him.
Rick: Hope we do get to see you at Town Creek this year. That is a really good pow wow, even if it is only one day.
January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35329Update on Manteo powwow-it was a really good pow wow. Not many craft vendors, had quite a few food vendors. The spirit is good here, if we can just figure out how to let people know what they are missing when they don’t come to this one. Do wish it was advertised more so there would be more general public.
There is a nice little park and swimming hole right around the corner and we thoroughly enjoyed that after the pow wow each night. And there are lots of other attractions in the area as well to see…makes a good place to spend a vacation.
Update on King-even though it was incredibly hot, we had a really good time. There were quite a few dancers, vendors, and lots of food. Danny Two Eagles does a good job at being emcee…although the intertribal sets can be long if you have many drums. There were four drums there. The camping was good and they fed all the dancers, vendors, and drums. Folks, this is one to put on your calendar if you are up that way in mid-August.
January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35377I live in Bassett and I was looking for a Pow Wow around my area to go to .
January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35381Penny,
Try http://www.virginiapowwow.com for Virginia powwows.
Also http://www.powwows.com has a month and state search function.
January 8, 2010 at 3:28 pm #35402Penny please read through the entire thread, most of the information is already posted on the upcoming pow wows.
There is a pow wow this weekend in Virginia Beach, I think, called Thunder on the Bay. And there is one in Surry County, with the Surry Nottoway tribe. But, Town Creek isn’t that far from Bassett…we have a dancer that will be there from Collinsville. It’s a one day pow wow at the Town Creek Indian Mounds in Albemarle, NC, right off 220. See post #33 above for Town Creek information.
They will be having the one day pow wow in Blackstone, VA, this year as well. That is Oct. 9.
There will be one in Radford on Oct. 16th.
There will be one in Virginia Beach at Ft. Story in November.
Googling any of these pow wows should bring the information up….but, yeah, checking powwows.com or thespike.com or 500nations.com should bring them up as well.
Aho
