In searching my Wooten line, I find Samuel born 1725-26, wife unknown..children:
Sally (Sallie)
Ann
John
Samuel
Martha (mine)
Sallie married to William Powell Daniel…all of the Wooten children above born in Mecklenburg co Va. Father of William Powell Daniel shown as William, died in Mecklenburg co Va 1782..born 1725 in Va. I did find a William Powell born in Amelia co in 1720. If the same?
Descending from William Powell Daniel and Sallie Wooten are a host of Daniel, Wall and Green peoples. Son Samuel marries three times. 1. Martha Garrett, 2. Ruth Reeves and 3. Martha Short.
Marriages within families to Joyner, Royster, Holland, Hodge as well. Was just surprised at all of the names.
Question..any more info on Samuel Wooten? Wootten? Died about 1814? Saj
October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23190Wow!! Hey I have some first cousins with the surname Wooten. Their mother is my mothers sister and she is a Tuscarora Rogers traced back to Indianwoods. The Wooten family is another one we have suspected of being ndn for a long time since this is not my line I haven’t really done any research on it and to my knowledge my cousins are not either. Just thought it was kind of cool that you have Wooten ancestors. I also have 1st cousins with the surnames Baker, Lynch, Brown, Rogers and Tant.

October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23194Hey Girls!
We’d have to see if the lines connect back further beyond the living I guess.
In the database I was looking at for above names there were several Baker and Tant families too! They were in Southern states. Interesting! Saj
October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23195By the way I failed to mention earlier that my ggggggrandmother was Mary Daniel daughter of Lemuel Daniel eastern North Carolina.
October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23196Saj,
I too failed to mention my Daniel connection… although, my Mary “Polly” Daniel married George Gibson Floyd, co. KY.:)
October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23199I have seen the Wooten surname listed in census records for Eastern coastal NC counties Lenoir,Pitt,Onslow,Bertie,Craven & Wilson.
October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23200Hi Linda and Shirley..on the Daniel lines..hard to tell if there is any connection but these families were in the Va/Nc areas and onto other Wv, Tn, Ky etc..we’ll have to see if we search harder.
Connie, I have seen Wooten families in NC..some are mixed and Samuel is a name carried down into these. But I haven’t found much on my Samuel..he was in Lunenburg/Mecklenburg co Va with no wife known but beyond that I don’t know. Born supposedly Jan 11 1725 or 1726 depending on which calendar. died in 1814 or 1815. I did see some photos of some connecting familes in Ky and they sure look part Native American to me. But I don’t know much beyond him and have found two of his children with info on so far.
Thanks for responding! Saj
October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23201Hi,
I have a Sarah Daniel. She apparently married Edward Hancock in Bedford Co, VA in 1792. Their daughter, my 4th great-grandmother, was born in South Carolina. This was supposedly Sarah’s second marriage. I read where she was married to Jesse Womack before, but when I was looking at the dates, something was really off on the dates. I thought that I had found Sarah’s parents, but the weird dates throw that off too.

October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23202Storyteller,
The LDS shows Sarah Daniel born c1751 died 1822/23 in Jessamine co Ky. Married twice, first to Jesse Womack who died in 1782 and then marrying Edward Hancock. If they married in 1792 whe would be about 40. Here is a site I found that shows numerous Womack marriages. See Sarah Hancock? First Daniels? It may be a bit mixed up but it seems to show the two marriages.

The Sarah Daniel married to first Jesse Womack shows a father of William Daniel and mother Elizabeth Watkins. The William powell Daniel born Cumberland co va c1740 that married Sallie Wooten shows the same parents as Sarah. William Powell Daniel married twice. First to Sallie Wooten and then To Elizabeth Short!

October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23204Any way to verify the parents of both Sarah Daniel and William Powell Daniel being the same? Bill? Help? I don’t always trust the LDS site without cross-checking info. Saj

This is so frustrating!!!! I log in and read the posts. Then I get ready to post a reply and it tells me that I’m not logged in. By the time that I get logged in the message that I’ve written has disappeared!!
In the previous attempt to post a reply, I pointed out that I also have a 1751 birthdate for Sarah with a 1761 marriage date to Jesse Womack and the birth of their 1st child in 1762. This would have made Sarah 11 yrs old when William was born. I show that they have 8 more children before he dies and she remarries. My 3rd great-grandmother, Rebecca Hancock, was born in 1797. This would have made Sarah about 46 yrs old at the time of her birth. Not impossible, but the marriage of a 10 year old is problematic especially with motherhood at 11.
I found William and Elizabeth Watkins Daniel as Sarah’s parents also. Then last night, I realized that the date of death that I have for William is 1747/8. This would mean that he died abt 4 yrs before the birth of his daughter. It’s possible that Sarah was actually born before he died, but then that would put her becoming the mother of Rebecca after 50 yrs old. More and more problematic!

October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23210But not impossible!! Not likely but not unheard of
October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23211The parents of my Mary Daniel were Lemuel Daniel and Sarah Dew. The parents of Lemuel were Hardy Daniel and Julia Barnes. Hardy’s parents were Simon Daniel and Elizabeth Rogers…Elizabeth Rogers was the daughter of Robert Rogers who was the brother of John Rogers of Indianwoods Rez. The Dew family moved from Nansemondtown in Virginia in the 1700’s. This line of Daniel trace back to Northampton VA (Gingaskin Rez) Mary Daniel married Cornelius Jordan (The Meherrin clain this Jordan line) Edith Jordan married Jesse Barnes…..Delpha Barnes married Issac Eason and Eliza Eason married John Adams Rogers. The Eason family is the only one here that was white. John Adams Rogers and Eliza Eason are my ggggrandparents. ggggggggggrandfather John Rogers came from Wales in the mid 1600’s he settled in Surry County Virginia. His son Thomas Rogers was born there in 1660. Thomas moved to Rogers Creek in Bertie County NC in the 1680’s he had one son he named Thomas Rogers in 1690. Rogers Creek became part of Indian woods Rez (Tuscarora) Thomas Rogers of Indian Woods had 4 sons Issac,Thomas, Robert and John all born on Indianwoods (Rogers Creek) John was signing off as one of the chief men of the Tuscarora on leases during the 1700’s his brother Thomas moved up the Roanoke River and started Rogers Mill in present day Halifax County. My ggggggrandfather Trustram Rogers is either the son of John or Thomas Rogers. In his estate records members of these familes were buying items from his estate (we traced back all the poeple who purchased items from his estate and they all trace back to the Indianwoods Rogers). In addition to this he helped pay a bastardly bond for one of Thomas Rogers sons. I hope this info is helpful to some of you it took me a long time to get to this but finally I know alot of the truth. My grandmothers family is still a mystery but hey LOL one day.
