The Holland family that ties into this group above has the earliest I find so far as a Thomas Holland born Ga 1812 married To Emily Wall. She was born in Mecklenburg Va and they end up in Tennessee. I tried to find what Holland line he is from but haven’t found much yet.

This sounds suspiciously like a branch of my Holland family. I detailed them here: http://www.saponitown.com/forum/showthread.php?t=2595
My Thomas Holland married first Phoebe Rickman in Nansemond, Virgina. Sometime after moving to the Greene County, Georgia, area, he was widowed and married an Elizabeth Wall or Walls. Thomas and Elizabeth may or may not have been the parents of a Thomas. There may have been other Hollands move from the SE VA area with Thomas and his family. The name Thomas was fairly common in this family.
I’ll do some looking in my Holland databases for more ideas. Greene County and surrounding areas in Georgia might be worth looking at, too.

It sure does sound suspiciously like!!
I looked around and found Nancy B Holland I mentioned married Clevarious Poindexter. They end up in Clark Co Indiana. Just a county from Washington co In. I saw a William Holland on the Washington co In census in 1820 with a Job (fpc) in household. And then in 1830 Hollands in Lawrence co In.
The Walls I mentioned above, I’ve yet to get back beyond 1800 or so. But I’m looking into it. Don’t find any parents yet for the Elizabeth Wall married to Thomas Holland.
There is another marriage of a William Daniel and Elizabeth Wooten in 1807 in Mecklinburg. This William Daniel born 1786.
I went to the Daniel genforum and put Wooten in and came up with two people corresponding with each other thinking that their Daniel lines connected. One has Walter Wooten Daniel in his line, brother Wm. Martin and a Hearl Wiggins Daniel. They were surprised to find that both of their families called themselves “turks”.
Shirley, don’t know if Wooten/Gibson would connect. Will see? Thanks, Saj
October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23260SAJ, my Foster line married William Holland’s daughter, Phetna. The Fosters first moved to Clark County before spreading into Lawrence, etc. There’s still a passel of them in that area, I understand.
“Turks”? That sure raises the questions about mixed ancestry, doesn’t it?

I may have stumbled onto something. Oh and that they were in Clark too? Hmmm…….
Back to the stumbling. I have found some Todd families in ky. related to a sibling of my direct Allen. Which also have me the wife of someone I have’nt had before and now can search.
How far back do you have the Todd family?
Maybe a separate post? Or this thread will get too confused!:) Saj
Bill,
I am e-mailing someone who has my Samuel Wooten back to the Richard Wooten and Lucy Council family and connected to NC Wootens also. I wonder how he got there. Saj

Quest for facts,
My ggggrandfather’s first wife was a Todd. A daughter from the second marriage married an Etheridge. This is the “mystery maze” line. Every path that I follow leads to a brick wall. Although, my ggggrandfather was supposed to have been born in Alabama, I think that his parents were born in South Carolina.

Saj,
I have to ask. Have you read my post about the Allen family in Muhlenberg Co, KY? Does any of it sound familiar?

They probably were born in SC this is the path many Etheridge took south. Alot of them went to the Edgefield District in SC on the Georgia line. Many went to Alabama after a stop in Georgia. Some stayed in NC with the rest of my folks.

This DOES sound like my Beard line’s “migratory pattern”. Suspected departure from South Carolina and on to Alabama after a brief stay in Georgia. My Beard ancestor kept going on to Arkansas. But, after his first wife (Mahala Todd) died he went BACK to Alabama to get married again (to Molsey Robertson/Robeson) and returned to Arkansas for several years before continuing on to Louisiana and Texas.
I just checked my genealogy program again, and I had gotten confused. I said that this same ancestor who married to a Todd had a daughter who married an Etheridge. Actually, two of his children married siblings but their surname was Shoemake. Their father was John Shoemake (b. 1818) of Marion District, SC. Their mother was Martha A. Etheridge b. abt 1818 in Alabama.

October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23293Your Martha is probably some of my Etheridge family. There are many still in Alabama today. My husband has Beard ancestors from southeast Missouri by the way. They connect back to Virginia and looks likes probably the Collins family too.

Todds and related lines back to the 1700s. There’s an Allen in there, too. I’ll try to start a separate thread on these this week, keep from confusing this one too much.

Just about everyone that I’ve talked to about the Beards has a brick wall there. No one can connect them to any parents. I SUSPECT that my Beards were in Virginia before going to South Carolina, Alabama, Georgia, etc. I also think that some branch(es) of the family went through Tennessee on the way to Arkansas. I have no proof. How did your husband connect back to Virginia? Right now, I’m waiting impatiently on the results of a DNA test that was taken by my maternal grandmother’s nephew to see if I can get any leads there.

October 2, 2006 at 4:05 pm #23301Bill helped connect him I’ll have to look again but they went through the Big Sandy on into Indiana, Ill. on into Missouri.
