I personally thank you for your post. I have considered such a possibility in regards to my John Rice … even though family legend makes no effort to support it … but as I learn and grow, I have learned to basically, question everything.
Again, it is because of information from people like you that I have re-shaped my “thinking-box” … or , better put, am learning to reshape it.

June 23, 2007 at 12:41 am #28182Hey Danny….I just saw this little ditty at a Taber descendant site I belong to (that is my paternal line) and the RICE surname mentioned as being Cherokee caught my eye…just thought I’d pass it along to you…perhaps we connect both maternally and paternally?! The gal who posted is named Linda Taber and she hailes from Michigan. her posting reads in full: “my grandmothers name was wells before she married my grandfather, i have family in Michigan a uncle i think his name was Preston, wife i cant remember they had one daughter prob still in the michigan area my dad is the only surviveing Taber left in my family so all the info i can find out i would appriciate my grandfather and grandmother orginaly lived in Bay Ark, also in Lepanto Ar, around Marked tree area and the Trumann AR area my grandmother was orginaly from Tenn, her maiden name was wells my Great grandfather name was Efrim or Effrim Taber his wifes name she was cherokee mary elizabeth (sunshine) Rice”
Hope this helps to some measure. Blessings~~~Laurie
June 23, 2007 at 12:41 am #28188Thank you Laurie.
I came across that name (Linda Taber) just a few days ago … recall wondering if she was related … ’twas an old post of hers somewhere else.
So far as I know, I don’t think these are my people. Some names (and the names were exciting!) look familiar and I think I’ve checked that line out – but will revisit it.
It brought some interesting names up doing the initial browsing, however. Including a John Walker Rice which I somehow automatically pictured as being a relative of Dan Akin.
Other names are brought up in their circle that nearly mirror the E. KY Rices.
Again, thanks for the link Friend.
DanC.
