Techteach, those minutes you mentioned of Patoka Southfork watershed mention “Enos” watershed or something like that.
That has me more curious than ever. The Eno were a Siouian people, right? Thus the term “Blackfoot” might have applied to them as well?
I can trace the Waylands to Germanna settlement right next to Gov. Spotswood’s home, and his home is where about 40 Saponi were ordered to evacuate because of pig stealing I believe it was. So I had relations there at about the time that they were ordered to leave that area.
My Richey’s married my Waylands in 1848 in Arkansas. The Richey’s have been harder to trace before they went to Indiana sometime between @ 1797 and about 1812. Census records just say born “Virginia” and no other information at all.
Maybe if I start reading “Eno” history it might lead somewhere. There is so much history I know nothing about . . . Maybe the “Eno” are a clue. Might be a dead end, but ya never know till ya search. 🙂

I think that sounds like a wonderful idea. I’m really hoping we can dig a little and find a lot, but I know we’ll have to work hard for any good info. Good Luck to us all! Love & Light, Lynella.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #11633HEY!
🙂 I just wanted to let you know a few things I found. I’m gonna’ put his into a few entries so the computer doesn’t time out on me AGAIN! I couldn’t find anything on the Enos Coal mine. But a I only spent about an hour on that. They do talk about the tipple as being errected so, it must be the structure itself like Bill was saying.
On one site, an Indiana Historical one, they had a small bit about a burrial mound about 70 feet high just a few miles southwest of Petersburg Indiana. I’m supposing it was Miami, but you know how far off my guesses are! I would like to find out more on that, find some archiology reports or something.
I also found 3 websites that are attempting to make a stupid urban legend out of Blackfoot Cemetary. How it’s haunted and stuff. on unsolvedmysteries.com one person told this big story about how they went out there to find something scary and then all this scary stuff about people in hooded black robes. I say if you go looking for something scary your mind can create it for you. So, I just want to slap that person! Love & light, Lynella.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #11634Howdy!
Then I found some info on the different treaties.
http://www.statelib.lib.in.us/www/ihb/amerindians/findingtreaties.html
It lists their sources and has a list of 17 different treaties and grants dated between 1783 and 1840. It’s a pretty long list so I’ll just let you guys do your own thing with it, rather than taking up a bunch of space here. It was under a section called, FINDING OUR WAY HOME: THE GREAT LAKES WOODLAND PEOPLE. It’s all info. on Indiana. Well, gotta’ go for now. Love & light, Lynella.;)

Several names here that are in my family : Green, Mason, Wilson, Metcalf, Rickets McClellen. Also others who appear on this forum.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #11641On this web site: http://www.wilcoxen.com/family/Mason/mason5.htm it indicates that several people went on to Texas.
A cousin of mine has said that she remembers a picture of my Mason dressed as a native American. Her husband was said to have said that he was Irish and Indian.

WAY COOL! Thank you! That’s quite a list! I see my Kinders, Ricketts, Fleeners, Reeds, Fergusons. And yes, what about Carter, Bolin, and several others. This is a great piece of info. Thank you so much for taking the time to do that. Kerry has photo’s and stuff on the cemetary. I can’t wait for him to see this list. He should be coming along to join us any day now. He’s supposed to get home this evening. You did a wonderful job! Thank You again. Love & Light, Lynella.;)
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #11643Lynella,
BTW, there were Fleeners in Iowa too. We had them in the town where we lived for 10 years, near the rest of my folks. Kind of dark-complected as I recall.

Really! I’ve never seen photo’s of the Fleeners. The Kinders, as in my mom and her brothers, sisters and some of her kids:p (Kerry, Marsha, Phyllis mostly) got the dark complection and hair, Espescially Marsha, she got everything! But we know the dark skin didn’t come from the Kinders. Alsies wife Nora Sutton is where we got it, I think. She was dark. You should see my mom’s brother Oran. He’s REALY dark. Kerry looks kind of like him, but not AS dark. Kerry looks a lot like Tom, with less hair and a kirk douglas chin! I have a photo here of my mom and all her brothers & sisters. I would love to show you all sometime. Are there any photo’s of any of your family members on here? I love looking at old photo’s. I keep looking at Vance now! Maybe we do look a little alike. I think my sister Donna would be a close enough look alike to Vance that she could be his sister! Ah, but I’ll keep her, she’s really cool! Well, I’ll share, cause’ I think you’re all pretty cool! And I did adopt you in when I first signed on here! 😀 Love & Light & Bless You, Lynella.
October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #11656Lynella, as far as I know the Kinder’s my Mother is related to are 100 percent German. There was a little German settlement here in SW Oklahoma. As I was told, the old people (Old in the 1920s or early 1930s when my parents were children) couldn’t speak any English, their kids spoke English and German, and their kids (my parents generation) spoke no German. Now altho my mothers people were german mostly and lived in this area, they were descended from German’s who’d been in they America’s for many generations, and not like these newcomers. Mom’s Plaster’s (originally Plascher, also called Plasters and Plasterer), and Jonas’ and those Kinder’s had been in American for many generations. She also has McClain’s (who were in Virginia, also spelled McLean, and 2 or 3 other ways), Irby’s, Porter’s, Walker’s, Atterberry’s (spelled several ways) and probably other spellings.
My Jonas relations were called “Black Dutch” but aside from that, I had thought they were all White. I researched the Jonases and think they were Jewish, tho, not Indian. But mom had more German in her that anything. She (mom) was blonde as was my grandpa Plaster. Grandma (whose maiden name was Jonas) had dark hair, tho. The Kinder’s married both the Plaster’s and Jonases, and all these families moved up to Oklahoma Territory before statehood at the same time. They came in a “wagon train” in several covered wagons from Jack County Texas and arrived in Tillman County just about the time the 19th turned into the 20th century. Mom used to tell the story about how her Aunt Annie (she was a Jonas that married a Kinder) got left behind at the river crossing (Red River), and how they’d travelled half a day before they realized she wasn’t with them, and they all turned around and went back to the River where they found her.
Dad’s folks were already in Indian Territory. Oklahoma Territory was westrn half of Oklahoma, and Indian Territory was the Eastern half of Oklahoma. Just about every other thing I have written on this forum was about Dad’s relatives, so altho Mom wasn’t Indian, I am happy to tell something about her folks too. 🙂 Mom was White with blond hair and blue eyes, while dad had Brown skin, black hair and brown eyes.

October 31, 2004 at 1:14 am #11657Lynella (and Vance):
The pix of my family are found under “The Other Blackfoot” and under “My Aunt Regina.” There you will find my gggrandmother, Mary Lovina Potter. She looks part native at least. The story in my side of the family is that the Sinkeys brought in the Indian (Her mother was a Sinkey.) while Deb, who is occasionally on this forum and related to me twice over because she is also a Ralston/Sinkey descendent, says that the Ralstons brought it in. Truth is, they both did, at least through intermarriage with the Ralstons. Brothers in PA married native women and brought them to Iowa. My gggrandfather, who married Mary Lovina Potter, and who is himself half native – his mother had the Blackfoot ID – is found in the “Genealogy” forum and found under “Emma Harris.” He resembles his white Irish father. I emailed a few more pix to Linda just before her big move, so they have not been posted. One, who was a brother to Mary Potter, is almost a twin to the online picture of the “last Tutelo” taken in Canada.
Oh, and Vance, my Blackfoot ggggrandmother, was Nancy Agnes McLane.
