Stacey,
That is so way cool of you! Love & Light, Lynella.
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12576Thanks Lynella,
It gives me something to do when I hit dead ends on my lines. The one file that I hoped would be in there, wasn’t. My 3GGrandfather, John Fisher, was in the Revolutionary War, but he was fighting for the “other” side. (He was a Hessian soldier from Germany hired by the British.) Family stories and a biography say he was under General Cornwallis and was taken prisoner by General Washington. Interesting story, I just wish I could find out more about it. Oh well.
Thanks again,
Stacey

Ooh! That sounds fascinating!:) I would love to know all the details. I hope you or one of us finds it for you soon.:) Lynella.

I checked out Heritage Quest. Could you check on Sinkeys (William and Richard)? It might not have anything more than the PA site (ARIES), but maybe there is more.
My William Sinkey is found at http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/pa/bedford/military/militia-1.txt There are a few other names on this list from this forum also, Ferguson, Ricket, Gibson, Huston, Meek, etc.

Hey there!:D How are you? Isn’t this all so wonderful? Happy New Year! Love & Light, Lynella.

I did not see any Sinkeys listed. There was one Sankey though – Ezekiel. He died 1807 in Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. His wife’s name was Catherine and their children were Ezekiel, Sarah, and Thomas. He served under Gen. Wayne in the war against the Indians in 1791. The file is 10 pages long (3.4MB). If you want the file just let me know, I will download it, and send it to you.
According to HeritageQuest’s website, the “Revolutionary War Era Pension and Bounty-Land Records Collection includes: over 81,000 pension files and over 138,000 pensioners and dependents.” It goes on to say: “This HeritageQuest collection details records of 80,000+ individuals who served in the Revolutionary War and contains both genealogical and historical information. Each veteran’s file usually contains six or more pages on each veteran and normally includes the veteran’s former rank, unit, and period of service, age or date of birth, residence, and sometimes-genealogical information on other family members.”
Within the Revolutionary War section, you can search these services also…
4 Regiment Artillery
Armand’s Corps
Artillery Artificers
CAN (Canada)
CONT (Continental Army)
Engineers
FR (France)
Foreign
General HOspital
GER (Germany)
Hazen’s Regiment
IN (Indian War)
Invalid Corps
Lee’s Legion
Military Hospital
Navy
SCT (Scotland)
Sea Service
Von Heer’s Corps
War of 1812
When I was looking for your names, I used the “search all”.
Of the other names you listed, there were Fergusons, Ricket(t)s, Gibsons, Hustons, and Meek(s) found on HeritageQuests page, but I don’t know if they were the “right” ones.
I did look through one Ferguson (Capt. Thomas) file and it talked about how he was from Bedford County, Pennsylvania and then removed to Mason County, Kentucky, and then on to Henry County, Kentucky. Some of these files are very hard to read because they are scans of the originals. In other words, they aren’t nice and typed 🙂 , they are mostly handwritten papers.
If it would be beneficial to you or anybody else, I can post the first names and the states served for the surnames you listed.

Thank you so much. Ezekiel may be related although there is some question. I have a book that claims he and my ancestor were brothers but I don’t think the relationship has been verified. However, the PA files on the Rev War links Thomas Sinkey/Sankey, Ezekiel’s brother, I believe, with my William Sinkey, I think, as he and a McCarty both have the same excuse and location noted on cards for missing a muster. My William marries a McCarty. The coincidence seems too much.
Ferguson is Lynella’s name. Hope she sees this.
Again, thank you. I do not think my William ever drew on his right to a pension.

Could you email me that file? I reread your posting and saw your offer. It might have clues in the text.

I also have a John Fisher that was in tthe RW who resided in Pa. I don’t have much but wondered if we could be connected. My John Fisher was born in Saxony, germany . I don’t have the year of birth but died in 1794 in Northumberland Co. Pa. He married a woman name Elizabeth ( unknown) and she died after 1820 in Columbia Co. Ohio. John And Elizabeth had a daughter named Catherine Fisher who married my Thomas Perry. Thomas Perry moved his family to Ohio and I only assume that Elizabeth moved with them.
Children of John and Elizabeth Fisher were:
Dorrithy Fisher
Elizabeth Fisher
George Fisher
John Fisher Jr.
Mary Fisher
Michael Fisher
Paul Fisher
Uley Fisher
Henry Fisher
Catherine Fisher
I don’t have any RW record on Fisher but do have the document on Thaoms Perry which is quite interesting. Connecting surnames Fisher..Perry..Lyons..Allman..Weatherholt..Marks..Mace….Patterson

Techteach,
Can you post your email address or send it to me at stacey.23@insightbb.com and I will get Ezekiel’s file sent to you. (I didn’t see anywhere to attach files on the “email” buttons on the forum.)
If you are intested, the following McCarty’s are listed as serving for Pennsylvania: Andrew, Dennis, Daniel (widow Letiticia), Phillip (widow Polly), Richard, and Thomas.
I also thought I would let you know that I am still waiting on that Butt(s) death record. They must be backed up because of the holidays.

November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12697Hi Brenda,
According to what relatives have told me, John Fisher was born around 1755 and died sometime before 1832. I don’t know where in Germany he was born. A biography of one of his children said Hesse-Cassel, but that same son’s census record three years earlier said Hesse-Darm. When John was set free from his capture, he lived out the rest of his life in Bedford County, Pennsylvania, which is where all of his children were born. According to the biography, John was married twice. He and his first wife had 15 children. His 2nd wife was Hannah Berriner and my 2GGrandfather, Jonathan (b. 1815), was the youngest of 3 children born to that marriage. I do not know his first wife’s or any of his other 17 children’s names. Jonathan and his children married into Howell, Lindley, Wimmer, Small, Davis, Gray, Pross, Seagrave, Linville, Stone, Moon, Overman, Loop, Whitaker, Mills, Bowland, King, and Sloan families.

I would be interested in the McCarty stuff also. Daniel (at least one Daniel McCarty) is my William Sinkey’s father-in-law. If the same Daniel who I think was mine, he served in Lieutenant Edward Rose’ ranging company from Bedford County. William Sinkey was a ranger in Captain Boyd’s ranging company.
I will email you and attach the Green/Butt genealogy for you. Maybe it will be useful for you.

Did I see Fergusons & Ricketts up there? Way cool! I’ll have to look into that! Thank You! Lynella.
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12703Stacy,
Would you check and see if there is a file on Meredith Collins or Captain James McDaniel’s? This would be out of old Fincastle County, Virginia. Richard Carlson said he found the RW file in Washington DC when he was there on a trip but I have sent for any record on either of these guys three times and they came back that no files were found….and yes they kept my fee.

November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12704Cindy,
I sent two files to you (Ezekiel Sankey and Daniel McCarty). Let me know if you have any problems receiving them.
On the other McCarty’s that I listed earlier, I went through the files and found where they filed them…
Andrew – service was listed with Capt. Scott in Pennsylvania, but lived in Jefferson Co., VA
Dennis – Fayette Co., Pennsylvania
Phillip (widow Polly) – Pike Co., Pennsylvania
Richard – No place listed. The file for him was a one page Bounty Land Warrant Card
Thomas – Bucks Co., Pennsylvania
If you think any of these files will help you, don’t hesitate to ask.
Stacey
