Ya’ know, I thought it was just me, because I always get such slow and bad connections up here. The telephone wiring in this area is just not up to scratch.:) Love & Light, Lynella.
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12800Techteach – Thanks again for the links and the info. 🙂
Unfortunately I wasn’t able to make a connection with any of these Ricketts – yet. I don’t Think I’ve got enogh info., on this end yet for our Ricketts. Our info was sparse. I am going to look at this some more though In just a short while. 🙂
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12801Probably the most data that I have on our branch came from Bill Childs on the “Saponitown Forum > Share Genealogy Research > Ferguson/Ricketts, Pike Co., Ind”. Although we did have that Mary Jane Ricketts’ father was John Ricketts. We also knew that Mary Jane had married Joseph Ferguson November 21, 1857 in Pike Co., Ind. We weren’t sure if John Ricketts was born Tenn., or Virginia.

Maybe you will not be able to connect, but you’ll have to see. Edward certainly led me to a lot of information. Hope he can help you.

November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12825Techteach,
🙂 He surely did lead you to a bunch and it’s all good, even if we aren’t directly connected there, we’re still connected!;) I do love your pipe. And I must say that info. your Rickett’s led ya’ too is quite interesting. Do you have Fleener’s in there somewhere?:) I might be wrong, but I was thinking you did. Thank you so much for all your info. and help. Every little piece, no matter who it matches up to is an integral part of the entire mass. This is still way awsome in my eyes and Kerry’s too.;) Love & Light, Lynella.

I been rackin my brains on the Ricketts… I think (but this is all conjecture based on hours of internet reading) that our Mary Jane Ricketts was the daughter of a John Ricketts, who was the son of a William Ricketts. (I may have missed a Ricketts in there – but if I did I’ll find ’em later) This William Ricketts “Might” have been related to TechTeaches Edward Ricketts (either his son, or a brother, or cousin). Anyway William was from Maryland originally then traveled to North Carolina, Then travel to either Tennessee or Kentucky or both, then ended up in Indiana. I suspect he’s had more than one wife, and I suspect that he’s had a bunch of kids; and I think that he’s named alot of the kids after his brothers; father, mother, sisters, cousins, etc. (Just to make it hard on us…) While his other family members (i.e. Robert, Nathan, Edward ?) Traveled from Maryland to Pennsylvania to Ohio, to Indiana. Again this is all conjecture based on circumstantial evidence. So I still got a lot of work to do here.:)
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12886Kerry,
Don’t work really hard. Edward is not in my direct line that I am aware of. I just know that he and his brothers lived next to my Sinkeys. One of the William Sinkeys married a Ricketts but her family came from Rockbridge, VA. I am pretty sure that there is a connection. There has to be with the way they lived and moved together, but I have not discovered the connection. I am not really looking right now either. I am looking at a Reverend Richard Sankey right now. He lived where my Richard Sinkey was (and where you are right now), but he left and went to Lunenburg, VA at the time when my Richard Sinkey appeared, around 1735. The Sinkey/Sankey names are interchangeable. The Reverend’s father-in-law, John Thompson/Thomson preached at several familiar locations on this forum : Lancaster, PA; Lunenburg County, VA, and Mecklenberg County, North Carolina. I was looking for clues in the online sources on the Reverends. I already found that one of locations where early Presbyterian ministers like these two (John Thomson led me to this source.)preached was called a Manor Indian Reservation. (I don’t remember the specific name.) The Ricketts and Sinkeys lived on land listed as a Manor. They are not the same Manors though.
And like you, my job right now is calling with a busy semester ahead of me. Little time.

Way cool! Thank you so much for digging in to them. I’m glad you understand how this stuff works. I love you, thank you again! Now, Iva Leota was a Ricketts, right? Before she married the Ferguson, right? Love & Light, Lynella.
Techteach,
Isn’t this just so cool! Don’t work too hard. Have some fun too. Love & Light, Lynella.;)

Lyn – Iva Leota was a Ferguson that married our Charlie Sutton. Her Parents were Joseph Ferguson and Mary Jane Ricketts.
Love ya; (Lyn – check your e-mail).
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12910Techteach – where was this “Manor Land” located? (Physically) and then how can I look at the same info.? I’m curious, it sounds intriguing…

It sounds as if that is how the Penns divided up their land after they got it from the crown and bought it from the Indians. Here’s a link that talks about the Manor land near York : http://www.cynthiaswope.com/withinthevines/ManorofSpringett.html Explore that site and there are explanations of two interesting things – manors and Blunston licenses. When the land was purchased, the Penns would find squatters on it. They were given an opportunity to buy that land from an agent of the Penns named Blunston, hence, Blunston licenses. I have this feeling, given that Rev. Richard Sankey (maybe connected with my Sinkeys) churched people in locations and with names that you find on this forum, that some of the Blunston licenses were given to more than just white people. The timing would be correct, during the northern movement of the Saponi, Tutelo, etc. And the Penns were very tolerant of the Indians.
