Lynella,
A search on Ferguson for all services and states brings up 68 files. If a widow filed for the pension, the file is listed twice (once under the soldier and once under the widow). The ones in Pennsylvania are:
Ebenezer
John (widow Martha)
Josiah/ Josias (widow Mary G.)
Samuel
Thomas
William
William
William (widow Elizabeth)
There were six Rickets/Ricketts:
Edward Rickets – PA
Nicholas Ricket(t)s – MD
Nathan Ricketts – PA
Robert Ricketts – PA
William Ricketts – NC, SC
William Ricketts – VA
If any of these look promising, just let me know.

November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12711Stacey,
😀 Thank you! This is wonderful! I’ll have to direct Kerry’s attention here, he has more on our Ricketts and Fergusons than I do. Although, him and Bill are running about neck & neck with this stuff, so Bill might have an idea. 😉 Your so sweet! Love & Light, Lynella.
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12716Brenda,
There are 146 Collins listed for all states and services, 22 just for Virginia. I don’t see a Meredith. The ones that they had for Virginia are (I listed places on the ones that I looked at):
Elisha – Greene Co., Alabama
George
Hezekiah – rejected; Madison and Clark County, Ohio
Jeffrey – Shenandoah County, Virginia
Jeremiah – Albermarlee County, Virginia
Joseph
John (widow Jane)
John
John
John
John (widow Phebe)
John (widow Margaret)
Josiah
Mason
Ralph C.
William
William
There were 5 James McDaniel’s listed, but only one for Virginia. His file is 5 pages and under contents section it says: “Also Ind. Spy in 1790 – 1792.” It said he was born December 26, 1755 or 1756 in Halifax Co., Virginia and died aft. 1845 in Jackson County, Ohio.
The file says: “He applied for pension, September 3, 1845, while residing in Jackson County, Ohio and alleged that while living in Bedford County, Virginia, he enlisted April 1, 1777 under Captain Thomas Arthur and Colonel James Calloway in the Virginia Troops, that he was in the battle of Guilford Court House, and served to the close of the Revolution; also that he enlisted January 1, 1790, while residing in Greenbrier County, Virginia, was an Indian Spy under Captain Edward hale and Colonel Hugh Caperton, was in engagements with Indians on the Guayandot and Coal Rivers and many other skirmishes, and served until January 1, 1793.” It goes on to say, “The claim was not allowed as he failed to furnish proof of service, as required by the pension law.”
If you want any of these files, just post or send me (stacey.23@insightbb.com) your email address, and I will send them to you.

Edward Rickets is possibley the Rickets that I posted information about in the Other Blackfoot. His name was Edward also. There is information on genealogy.com that says that he marries a Chaney from MD against her father’s wishes.

November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12730WOW Stacy, James McDaniel sounds like the one I am looking for and in the right location. Does it say he was a Captain…..I would really like the file. It may take some digesting but I might find a clue in it. Thanks for looking this up for me….BTW one of those John’s is probably one of mine….I belong to the millons in the John Collins Club .

Edward Ricket(t)s, his name is spelled both ways in the index
– Roll 689

– Served in Pennsylvania
– Of Huntington Co., Pennsylvania
– Served under Capt. John Settle’s Company, to go in to ?? Catenron(?) town after the Indians.

– His claim for pension was not allowed as he failed to furnish proof of service as required by the pension law
– Only the name of one child was given, a son, Colonel John Rickets, who lived in Fairfield Co., Ohio (a copy of another persons request was attached – they were asking for a file for Colonel John Cotton Ricketts, who served in the War of 1812 or in the Mexican War – I assume they are the same, but didn’t read the file that closely)
– In 1832, Edward’s brother, Thomas, was referred to as having served in the Revolution with him a part of the time
– In 1832, another brother, Reson, made affidavit in Fairfield Co., Ohio, in behalf of Edward
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12746Stacey:
That information on Edward Rickets is very relevant to me. Thank you! This seems like it might be the Edward Rickets that was with my Richard Sinkey (William’s father). Those movements provide some explanation of why the PA group and the WVA group went to Licking County, Ohio together (and I think Licking County was Fairfield first). Edward Rickets came from very near where the Greens from WVA originated. And, I need to check my map, but I think the Antietam location is very near. I need to check several of my sources now. Thanks!
Some Rickets continue on to Iowa from Ohio, because there are several in the cemetery with my Sinkey ancestors in Iowa. I don’t think they are my direct ancestors, but William Sinkey’s son William marries a Rickets. I am descended from Matthew Sinkey.

November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12753Stacey,
😎 Way cool! Thank you so much for having taken the time to put all this together and post it. This is very kind of you and I really do appreciate it, A LOT!:D I’ll have to match all this up to what we’ve gotten so far. You’re the best! Love & Light, Lynella.
Techteach,
🙂 Is stacey cool, or what!:)
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12762Stacey, Lynella, and Kerry:
I figured out who this Edward Ricketts was. He was indeed connected with my Sinkey family somehow. He lived near my great-something grandfather Richard, as did his brother, Reson and, his nephew, I believe, Cheney, sometimes written as Chain. I saw both of them on the same muster list as Richard Sinkey’s son, William who goes to Ohio and then Iowa also. William Sinkey’ son, William, marries Hannah Ricketts.
Lynella and Kerry – check http://thor.genserv.net/sub/philb/fam_6.htm#0, http://www.rootsweb.com/~pahuntin/townships/barree/hist-barree.htm and http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mcphilbrick/tmgweb/web-p/master_index.htm. Following these genealogies, I believe, connects your Reeds also. The last has a Read marrying a Ricketts. These Ricketts are Cheney’s descendents.

November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12773Techteach,
😎 How cool is that?:D Thank you! There is a lot of good info there. Thank you so much for sharing.
Kerry,
There’s Ricketts, Reed, Ferguson and Miller in there! Quick! We gotta’ get em’ out and see if they’re ours!;)
Thank you again, Techteach. You are always so very helpful. Love & Light, Lynella.
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12774TechTeach – Sorry I haven’t had the chance to look at any of this yet. 🙁 It’s been back to work for me, I’m afraid I had to get caught up on 3 weeks worth of expense reports. If not I can’t pay the bills. It’s already late so I won’t get a chance to look at this tonight. I will try to look at it tomarrow (if I don’t get sent on a service call somewhere). It sounds like though there could be some good data in there. Don’t give up on me – I will look at it!:)
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12775Techteach – I took a quick peak at the links. I managed to save the data from the first 2 links; but I could not get the 3rd link to work for me. 🙁 I wonder if I’m doing something wrong?
November 26, 2004 at 6:52 pm #12780Kerry and Lynella:
Try this link instead : http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~mcphilbrick/tmgweb/web-p/index.htm It is the index page of this family tree. It has lots of Ricketts, including Captain Edward and Cheney Ricketts.
