Nansemond Indian Tribal Pow Wow

The Nansemond Indians originally lived along the Nansemond River and were part of the empire ruled by Powhatan (father of Pocahontas). The Nansemond Indian Tribal Pow Wow is a two-day cultural celebration honoring the Tribe’s heritage. The Pow Wow features music, dance, authentic crafts and food.

Linda, I did indeed notice the upgrade yesterday and posted all the events on the calendar. The only thing I boo-booed on was Red Wing Park, which I have now fixed. So all anyone should have to do is to scroll over the calendar date, click on it, and read. There is sketchy information there, but, they can refer back to the thread to get all the details.

We have plenty of camping space available. IF, you need a Motel I’ll try to help you find one. There are several in the area.

Sat. afternoon- Gourd dancing at 1:00, InterTribal about 2:30-4:30ish, dinner break(our Committee will serve the dinner), 6:00ish- Gourd dance, Grand Entry at about 7:00pm. Stomp Dance and 49 after the dance.
Sun. Morning- 10:00am Church service by Robert Soto, Lipan Apache, 1:00pm Gourd Dance, 2:00pm InterTribal, 4:00pm Committee Special.

Directions:
From I-95 North take exit 8 and head west to stop sign US-17 (Whyte Hardee Blvd). Turn left and go into Hardeeville. At traffic light (Main St). take a right and follow that road. Gross over US-321 onto Church St and go to stop sign then turn left onto Purrysburg Rd. Pow wow will be on the right 1/2 mile.
From I-95 South take exit 5 and travel North on US-17 (Whyte Hardee Blvd) 1/4 mile and turn left on US-321(Deerfield Rd) travel 1/2 mile and turn left onto Church St. Go to stop sign and turn left on Purrysburg Rd. Pow wow is on right 1/2 mile.

December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33299Just wanted to post about the NCSSM pow wow…it was great to see you folks…it was a good day. There were seven drums and lots of dancers. It was fantastic to see the younger dancers come out in numbers. And quite a few vendors selling just about everything….and good food. Helps make the winter not seem so long…..spring’s just around the corner…

Ft. Hamby Pow Wow
Third annual educational pow wow. This is held in a state park so it is in a wonderful setting. Kids day is Friday.
Lots of educational activities by the Park Ranger and the Native staff. Park admission is $1 per person and admission to the Pow Wow is $5 for Adults and
$2 for Kids. Come and stay all day. There will be something going on all day. Dancing, drumming and singing, craft vendors, story tellers, flute players, flint knappers and much more. The Ft. Hamby Park is located at the end of South Recreation Road about 6 miles North of Wilkesboro on US Hwy 421 at the 293 mile marker.Cosponsored by the W. Kerr Scott Dam and Reservoir and the Blue Ridge Intertribal Pow Wow Association.

Creator blessed us with great weather, fantastic drumming…and the energy to enjoy it all. Here is a link to the pictures….Beeleaf has on her new regalia, Ken has added his “goats” to his shoulders…….

Found this and thought I would post it here….this is a very good pow wow. We went last year and had a wonderful time with some great folks. It’s worth the time and drive to attend the pow wow and experience the history there is in this area of NC.

We are comprised of people who are genealogically descended from the original historic Roanoke-Hatteras (Croatan) Indians of Dare County, North Carolina and Mattamuskeet Indians of Hyde County, North Carolina.
