#70,
White Dove, that was my 2nd powwow ever back in 2007.
Shenandoah Valley is a great pow!Lots of vendors, dancers, and easy to get
to.
Unlike some other powwows, they do have bleachers.
Had to leave early last year because of an approaching thunderstorm.
(Ran thru hail also on the way back.)Hope the weather holds out this year.

Thanks for the offer, will take it into consideration when making our plans. I looked on the map yesterday and just realized how long a trip that was to Shenandoah..may be ready for a long weekend by then.
Forest
Will come looking for you…always good to see our friends. Sounds like things are coming together quite nicely.

So how was the OBSN Pow Wow? One of these years it will work where we can make it:)

December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33860The OBSN Pow Wow was great. Many of my friends and family were there and the weather was super. Not to hot. I don’t sunburn easily so I’ll have to let some of the others that were there talk about that. We had other obligations so we left after supper, but we enjoyed it.
December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33862It was good to be with family again….and it was good to see Forest. They have rebuilt a smokehouse and have a tobacco slide down there along with the tying rack so folks can see how tobacco was processed.
Cindi, you left before the hot took over…after dinner the heat index went up and second grand entry was a scorcher….it wasn’t too long after that that we all took our regalia off and got cooler.
There were two food vendors and quite a few craft vendors. And of course, Nu Ma Woo Chi was kicking as usual….they are a fantastic drum!! Shirley, you will remember them from Clarksville…and when you get ready to come back down here, we will find you a pow wow.

December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33981Wow!! Is about all I can say about Strong Sun Festival….even though it was hot, the spirit was definitely cooking….three drums on Saturday. There were quite a few craft vendors and several food vendors. We enjoyed dancing with all our “family” and spending quality time together. This is definitely one to put on the books for next year.
Hope everyone will be able to make it to Bland for the next pow wow….looks like it will also be a good one. I know we sure had a good time last year.

Just thought I would bring this back to the front since it’s just a couple of weeks off….saw Penny this weekend and it promises to be a great pow wow with a lot of spirit. Rick Bird and Birdchopper will be the emcee/drum at this one. Not sure if Dry Creek Medicine had this on their agenda or not…can’t remember, but they were at Strong Sun and very good group. For dancers, they do have flush toilets and shower available if you wish to camp on the fairgrounds.

December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33993Looks like we will be camping at this one since I finally quit procrastinating and bought an airbed…now to get out the tent and hope it fits…LOL. And dug out the old camping gear we already had….plus we can use it at Manteo in August.

December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #34014Well, the Bland (Green Corn Festival) pow wow certainly held up to my expectations….great spirit and fabulous drumming on Friday and Saturday. And even though the rain cancelled Sunday’s activities, there was still good fellowship and comraderie felt there on Sunday.
Had four food vendors, and quite a few craft vendors. Two drums: Rick Bird and Birdchoppers and Dry Creek Medicine. There was storytelling and demonstrations as well. On Friday we danced until about 8:30…as the sun was setting behind the mountains. Saturday was a lot of intertribals intermingled with Candy Dance for the kids, Switch dance, Ladies/Men’s Competition sponsored by the headlady dancer, Beaver dance, Round dance, Two Step, and several others.
The location for this pow wow is great. There are buildings where you can sit and eat your meals, actual bathrooms, easy to access from I-77, and the hosts are so hospitable. Dancers were treated to meal tickets and luck of the draw.
