Spilleddi….with that being in October and in the mountains, the weather should be a bit cooler than the last time you danced here…LOL. I know last year they allowed folks to camp in the building on the grounds. And this year it states on the flyer, no coolers…hope that means for the public…gotta have my gatorade and propel…we did have a good time last year, though. Even Ken got to switch dance with my shawl….even got video of it.
December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33755Might go to SHenandoah. Definitely planning for Wolf Creek. Spilleddi, there will be at least 4 of us from this forum dancing in our family’s backyard/pasture at that…good feeling thing to do. I look forward to that.
If we can still camp there, we’ll put our cooler in the car or tent. Surely they would not expect dancers to buy/eat fried food and soft drinks all weekend. “No coolers” is also on the Monacan flyer.
December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33757I know the car wasn’t too far from the grounds, just a hassle to have to walk to it to get your drinks, especially as much as a dancer requires. I do remember them giving us a meal, too, which was nice.
Not sure if we will make it to Shenandoah, but would really like to go. Mike and Jeannie have been a lot and say it’s a good one. Depends on my mechanic….and the van.

I will be at Shenandoah, King and Wolf Creek pow wows – would love to go to them all but can’t.

I will be at this pow wow.
December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33830Great I look forward to seeing you. Bee just said her and Sandy will be there also. My cousin Hattie told me that the Lackey Family Cemetery was up the hill from the church that is across from the Bob White Bridge. I thinkg that’s the right name. I’ll be visiting one day soon because my greatgrandmother and great grandfather and my ggrandmother’s sister are buried there. I love to pay my respects to my ancestors. Cindi
December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33832It has been suggested that we plan to be at Shenandoah….probably with a rental car, but, looks like we may make that one. And we usually make it to King and Wolf Creek….and may be this year OBSN in Mebane won’t be so hot…it’s a short distance from us so that’s doable for us.
Aho

Smoke & Prayers,
Debbie
December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33834It will be our first as well…we have not decided what we’re doing yet…if we can get a tent we may camp.
December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33835We’ve put in an order for cooler weather this year, and are hoping it will be delivered by this weekend.

December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33836LOL…I hope it gets delivered…you mean those trees haven’t made a forest yet? Shucks was looking forward to putting a hammock up…oh well. We are looking forward to seeing friends at OBSN…and putting out the word to all we see. How many food vendors are you planning to have? Some of my family wanted to know what might be available….
Aho

December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33837Osiyo Becky,
If you decide to come to VA to the pow wow – Daniel and I have an extra cabin tent you may borrow. Dan says to bring a tarp – not sure if the tent leaks.

December 30, 2008 at 3:56 pm #33839Hi Becky,
Mills on Wheels from Hollister and Julian Hunter from Ahoskie are the two food vendors, I believe. I’m not familiar with Julian’s food; his father was Andrew Hunter, who some folk on the forum knew. Mills on Wheels serves pretty standard pow-wow fare, and were here last year.
I should be down at the reconstructed smokehouse this year, working on either rabbit boxes or tobacco slides, or something appropriate to the 1930’s.
